Spread.Take Jets +4.5 at BetMGM’s directly retrieved price of 1.90. Edge Labs makes Green Bay -4.8, offering essentially no model justification for New York. My subjective adjustment puts this closer to Packers -3: the model misses important personnel availability and coordinator changes, while Geno Smith’s efficient debut supports a more competitive Jets offense. Jacobs’ exempt-list absence and Parsons’ PUP placement weaken Green Bay, although these are longstanding public facts and should already be substantially priced. The dossier’s move from Packers -5.5 toward -3.5 also means much of the Jets improvement has been recognized. The strongest counterargument is overreacting to opening results: Green Bay led Minnesota 22-10 before losing, and beating Tennessee establishes little about New York’s ceiling. Sampled betting splits actually favor Green Bay in both tickets and money; they do not establish sharp Jets support. Getting beyond both three and four makes New York attractive, but pending Week 2 injury information keeps this below a strong position.

Total.Take over 44 at BetMGM’s displayed 1.85, with modest conviction. Subtracting the model’s stated 1.2-point bias produces 45.23, only 1.23 above this line. The over case rests on New York showing functional passing efficiency and explosive gains, Hall returning to full participation, and Green Bay playing without Parsons while implementing Gannon’s defense. The under case is substantial: Jacobs’ absence weakens Green Bay’s rushing options, and New York demonstrated possession control with a nearly 12-minute drive that produced only a field goal. Showers could also reduce efficiency, although verified daily forecasts do not establish a strong-wind handicap. Earlier dossier totals rose from 42.5 to 44.5, so offensive optimism has already been priced. The retrieved 44 improves the entry; uncertain weather, unsettled injury information and the relatively expensive over price limit confidence.

Where our number looks wrong. The spread likely overstates Green Bay’s current advantage by missing Jacobs’ exempt-list absence, Parsons’ PUP absence, and changes beyond the head-coach flag, including new Packers defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon (Packers, 2026-09-13). Conversely, learning only from final margins can over-penalize Green Bay’s late Week 1 collapse. These effects oppose each other; -4.8 is not a demonstrated edge. The totals model’s stated 1.2-point upward bias reduces 46.43 to 45.23, leaving only 1.23 points over the retrieved 44.

Spread. Our number (Jets +4.8) leans Green Bay, but that rating still values a Packers roster that no longer takes the field. Micah Parsons opened the year on Reserve/PUP (torn ACL/meniscus, out the first four games) and lead back Josh Jacobs is on the Commissioner's Exempt List with no timetable (ESPN 9/xx). Green Bay's offensive line is banged up (Aaron Banks Q). The market has already discounted this, moving GB from -6.5/-5.5 down to -4 to -4.5 (NBC Sports 9/15) after the Packers blew a 22-10 lead and lost 39-22 at Minnesota, surrendering the game's final 29 points with a Parsons-less defense. The Jets, by contrast, dominated Tennessee 23-10 at home behind a clean Geno Smith (19/24, 215, 0 TO, 0 sacks) and a 102-yard Breece Hall. Green Bay was also 3-7 ATS on the road last year. Taking a well-playing home dog getting four against a depleted, road-fading favorite. Not full size: Love is the far better QB and some of the move is Week-1 recency.

Total. Our totals model leans over (46.4 vs 44.8), but it runs ~1.2 pts high on holdout and grades worse than the market, so I discount its lean and read game flow instead. The Jets' Week 1 identity is a ball-control, clock-eating offense: Breece Hall carried 22 times for 102 yards and Geno Smith managed the game cleanly, while the defense held Tennessee to 10 points. A Packers offense without Josh Jacobs is more one-dimensional on the ground, which plays into New York shortening the game. The total has been bet up from 42.5 to 44.5/45, so I'm fading a market that has already moved toward the over. MetLife is outdoors in late September with no adverse weather reported as of 9/15. Lean under, but low conviction, Love's arm (387 yds Wk1) can break this open in a spot where GB may be chasing.

Where our number looks wrong. The rating (GB 0.87 vs NYJ -3.42) is still carrying the Packers' preseason prior and can't see that Parsons and Jacobs are both off the field, it materially over-rates Green Bay. That is exactly why our number (Jets +4.8) disagrees with a market that has already moved a full point-plus toward the Jets; the market is right and the model is stale here.

Spread. Our rating likes Green Bay by more than the market does (our home number +4.8 vs market ~3.8-4), but the personnel picture argues the other way. GB is missing its lead back (Josh Jacobs, Commissioner's Exempt List, no reinstatement word as of 9/10 plea) and best pass rusher (Micah Parsons, PUP/ACL, targeting Week 6) for a second straight week, and the line already collapsed from Jets +5.5 at open to +3.5/+4.5 now on reverse-line-movement money (Jets carrying 63.75% of the handle on only 43.09% of bets), sharp signal, not just public overreaction to a 23-10 road win. Green Bay's offensive line was torched for 4 sacks and 2 turnovers in the Week 1 collapse and still lists two starters questionable (Banks, Bako-Bewele) into this week, while a rebuilt Jets D-line (Sweat, Bailey) is built to attack exactly that. I'm taking the home dog and the number the market has already been correcting toward, rather than our rating's stiffer, prior-heavy projection.

Total. Our totals model projects 46.43 against a 44.8 consensus, but it has historically run about 1.2 points hot versus the closing number, which nets out to roughly a coin flip against today's 44.5-45 market, not a real edge in either direction. The total has already climbed from 42.5 at open (late August) to 44.5-45 now, so the market has largely caught up to the same scoring bump our model sees; I don't see fresh value in chasing it further. Both lines were the story in Week 1: Green Bay's OL allowed 4 sacks and 2 takeaways, and two starters are still questionable this week, while the Jets under Aaron Glenn played a controlled, defense-forward 23-10 win rather than a track meet. I'd rather bet on continued sloppiness/short fields capping possessions than on either offense scaling up cleanly, and take the marginal under at the market number.

Where our number looks wrong. The rating (GB +0.87 vs NYJ -3.42, raw home margin -2.2) is still mostly the preseason prior this early in the season, and only the new-coach/QB flags feed in roster context, it has no way to see that Green Bay is playing without its top back and best pass rusher for a second consecutive week, or that the market has already spent five days correcting toward the Jets on real money. Paired with the model's flat 47.6% career ATS hit rate and its own 'pass' reading here, I'd trust the personnel picture and the sharp-side line move over the calibrated number.

The call, written up

On the spread

Our number leans Green Bay, but the rating still values a Packers roster that no longer takes the field: Micah Parsons opened the year on PUP (out at least into October) and lead back Josh Jacobs is on the Commissioner's Exempt List with no timetable. The market has already moved a point-plus toward the Jets, from +5.5 at open to +4, and New York's Week 1 identity was clean, ball-control football in a 23-10 win. Take the Jets +4; +4.5 is out there.

On the total

Small under 44.5. The Jets play a clock-eating, run-first game (Hall 22 carries in Week 1) and Green Bay is down its top back and top rusher, which caps the ceiling. The over side is that New York showed passing efficiency and the number already climbed from 42.5. Our totals model (46.4) runs high and is discounted. Lean under.

The totals number is a registered candidate that loses to the closing total: across 1,087 held out games it missed the combined score by 10.46 points on average and the closing total missed by 10.189, ahead of us in all 4 of those seasons, so it never posts to the board and never enters the record on its own.

Trends and splits

Descriptive context, every line with the games it counts. Filters like these did not hold up as predictors in our testing, so none of this feeds a call and none of it is a reason a pick wins. Situational splits look back 3 seasons and need at least 8 decided games to be shown at all. Records against the number and on the total are graded at each game's closing line, the last quote before kickoff at DraftKings, FanDuel and BetMGM. A game we have no capture for is graded at the number the league data carries.
