Spread.Take Raiders +7, verified at FanDuel at -108. Edge Labs' calibrated Chargers -6.9 essentially matches the market; its raw -5.8 offers a less stretched starting point. My judgmental fair spread is approximately Chargers -5.5. Las Vegas demonstrated better protection and a functional rushing attack under Kubiak, while Cousins already knows his system. McConkey's rib injury and Molden's hamstring issue add uncertainty on both sides for Los Angeles. Bowers is now day-to-day, so treating the dossier's OUT designation as applicable to Sunday would overstate the Raiders' disadvantage. The counterargument matters: Las Vegas produced only 290 yards against Miami, Cousins threw two interceptions, and Herbert's offense can improve substantially after its disjointed debut. The move from +8.5 to +7 has already priced some Raiders improvement and Chargers disappointment; this is a modest remaining edge at the key number, not an undiscovered mismatch. Conflicting, inconsistently timestamped betting-split pages do not establish sharp action.

Total.Take under 43.5 at the freshly verified FanDuel line. Applying the dossier's specified 1.2-point bias correction changes 44.0 to 42.8, only a modest under anchor. The stronger case is McConkey's uncertain effectiveness, unresolved Bowers availability, and Las Vegas' ability to sustain rushing possessions. Its 27-point opener also benefited from excellent return field position, making that scoring output less repeatable. The over deserves respect: Jeanty looks productive, Bowers could return, and Los Angeles allowed 393 yards under new coordinator Chris O'Leary. Herbert and McDaniel can also recover points lost through failed scoring opportunities. Weather provides little resistance. Movement is mixed: FanDuel rose from 42.5, while the dossier shows other books falling from 44. I narrowly favor under; healthy receiving stars would materially weaken it.

Where our number looks wrong. The calibration adds 1.1 points to the raw Chargers advantage without demonstrated ATS benefit. Final-margin learning inadequately represents Las Vegas' rebuilt line and Cousins-Kubiak familiarity, and retaining Harbaugh does not mean coaching continuity: Mike McDaniel and Chris O'Leary are new coordinators. The model also misses McConkey's new injury. Conversely, one Raiders win does not validate a wholesale upgrade: 27 points on 290 yards benefited from field position. Bowers' stale OUT label must not become a Week 2 assumption.

Spread. Our number (-6.9 home) sits exactly on the market and carries no proven ATS edge, so the case has to come from news, and the news tilts toward the dog. The Chargers are laying a touchdown at home after a flat 26-14 Week 1 loss to Arizona in which Herbert managed only 209 yards, and their WR1 Ladd McConkey (rib) is genuinely up in the air (Harbaugh/Rapoport, 9/14). Their defense is also down two starters, Molden (hamstring) and Perryman (ankle), both ruled out. The Raiders, meanwhile, looked competent in a 27-13 win over Miami and the market has already shaded their way, from DK/FD -8.5 open to -7 now. This is a division game, where dogs of a touchdown perform well and familiarity compresses margins. Vegas is not clean either: interior lineman Jackson Powers-Johnson is out (concussion) and Cousins threw two picks. This is a lean, not a hammer, hence the modest number.

Total. Our totals model (44) is essentially on the market (43.6-44) and grades worse than the market on holdout, so it earns no deference. The lean to the under is a news read: the Chargers scored only 14 in Week 1 and may be without WR1 McConkey (rib), which thins an already uninspiring offense, and division rematches tend to play tighter and lower as familiar defenses limit explosives. SoFi is a dome, so no weather to push it either way. The market has nudged the total up from a 42.5 open to 43.5-44, which is the direction against me, but that move is modest and looks tied to the Raiders' 27-point opener rather than to anything about the Chargers' offense improving. With McConkey doubtful and both defenses playing at home-ish familiarity in a rivalry, I'll take the points off the board. Low conviction.

Where our number looks wrong. The rating lands at -6.9, dead on the market, and gives us no edge to trade. This early it is mostly the preseason prior (one game into the refit): it prices the Raiders as a clear -3.79 team off last year's 3-14 and cannot see the Cousins/Kubiak rebuild that produced a Week 1 road win, nor can it read that the Chargers' WR1 is doubtful, their offense looked flat, and they lost two defensive starters. All the live signal that matters here is invisible to the number.

Spread. The signal is qualitative. A flat sharp book against a drifting square line is a fade-the-public tell. The Chargers' problems are real, starting center Tyler Biadasz is done for the season, a rookie is in, and WR1 Ladd McConkey left Week 1 hurt, but the underlying roster gap (rating -0.16 vs -3.79) and home field still justify the number. Taking Chargers -7.

Total. Our totals model prints 44 against a 43.5-43.6 market consensus, but the model's own holdout bias runs about 1.2 points hot versus the closing number, which erases the lean once corrected, call the true model read closer to 42.8, under the market. Both offenses are banged up in ways the totals model can't see, since it only reads QB continuity: the Chargers are down their starting center and possibly their WR1, and the Raiders are without TE1 Brock Bowers. SoFi Stadium's fixed roof removes weather as a variable. A division rematch between two shaky offensive lines and unsettled skill-position rooms argues for fewer explosive plays and more field-position football. Taking under 43.5.

Where our number looks wrong. The rating is still mostly the 2025 season-end prior plus one game, so it has no way to price Biadasz's season-ending injury or McConkey's health, both in-season roster shocks that will lag into the rating for weeks. It also can't discount that Jeanty's big Week 1 line came against a weak Miami front, and is already weighting that one game at close to full value. This is a spot where our team-strength input is more stale than the market's own repricing.

The call, written up

On the spread

Our number sits exactly on the market (Chargers -6.9 vs -7), so the case comes from news, and it tilts to the dog. The Chargers are laying a touchdown at home after a flat 26-14 Week 1 loss in which Herbert managed 209 yards, and WR1 Ladd McConkey (rib) is genuinely up in the air, with two defensive starters already out. Las Vegas won its opener behind a functional run game. Lean Raiders +7.

On the total

Lean under 43.5. A banged-up Chargers receiving room, a division rematch that tends to play tighter, and both offenses coming off modest Week 1 outputs point down; all three landed under. Our totals model (44) sits on the market and is not part of the case. Small under.

The totals number is a registered candidate that loses to the closing total: across 1,087 held out games it missed the combined score by 10.46 points on average and the closing total missed by 10.189, ahead of us in all 4 of those seasons, so it never posts to the board and never enters the record on its own.

Trends and splits

Descriptive context, every line with the games it counts. Filters like these did not hold up as predictors in our testing, so none of this feeds a call and none of it is a reason a pick wins. Situational splits look back 3 seasons and need at least 8 decided games to be shown at all. Records against the number and on the total are graded at each game's closing line, the last quote before kickoff at DraftKings, FanDuel and BetMGM. A game we have no capture for is graded at the number the league data carries.
