Los Angeles Chargers at Seattle Seahawks. Pick: Seattle Seahawks -7. Pick: Under 43.5.
The call
The panelists
- The Chargers' official Wednesday report listed six DNP players, including Jackson, Tomlinson, Awosika and Kolar, while James and McConkey were limited.
- Seattle's official Wednesday report listed Love limited, Okada DNP, and several other players limited.
- NFL Game Center lists Los Angeles at 14.7 points per game and Seattle at 25 points per game through Week 3.
On the spread. Los Angeles has Justin Herbert, McConkey remained limited rather than absent, and Seattle's own injury report includes two safeties plus front-seven and offensive-line names. If the Chargers' starters progress through Thursday and Friday while Seattle's secondary does not, -7 is too expensive.
On the total. Seattle's Week 3 game reached 64 points, Darnold produced 379 passing yards, and the mild forecast removes a weather-based scoring drag. Any clean Chargers injury report, especially McConkey and the offensive line, weakens the under at 43.5.

Spread.Market-first, Seattle moved from -3 at DraftKings and -6.5 at several other books to -7 or -7.5 because an 0-3 Chargers team has scored 14.7 points per game, Seattle has scored 25 per game, and Los Angeles entered Wednesday with several key absences or limitations. Seattle also returns home after a 33-31 loss in which Darnold threw for 379 yards. That case supports Seattle, but the move has already reached the key number of seven and the Wednesday reports are not final. Our -10.8 number points the same way, but it is not evidence of an ATS edge. I would take Seattle -7 at -115 only as a lean, not chase -7.5.
Total.Market-first, the total fell from 45.5 at the early DraftKings capture to 42.5, reflecting Los Angeles' 14.7 points per game and an offense described by its team site as lacking consistent execution. The move also coincides with a Chargers injury report featuring multiple offensive and defensive contributors. The under case remains viable only at FanDuel's captured 43.5, which is materially better than 42.5. Seattle's 33-31 Week 3 game, Darnold's 379 passing yards and a mild, dry forecast argue against overstating the defensive narrative. Our 43.64 projection offers no support after adjusting for the totals model's historical high bias, so this is a price-based under lean rather than a bet.
Where our number looks wrong. The model's -10.8 is a stretched calibration of an 8.4 raw margin, relies heavily on a preseason prior, and may overstate Seattle after its 2025 14-3 season. It does not price the current injury uncertainty, including Seattle's secondary absences and the Chargers' Wednesday report.
- NFL Game Center lists Los Angeles at 14.7 points per game through Week 3.
- Chargers.com reported Wednesday DNP designations for Awosika, Kolar, Thompson and Tomlinson, with McConkey limited.
- Seattle's team news reported its 33-31 Week 3 loss and Darnold's 379 passing yards.
- Seahawks -7 (-112) at BetMGM, total 43; Chargers 0-3, Seattle 2-1; LA offense 31st in EPA per play
- Chargers Wednesday practice report: seven DNP including Awosika, Tomlinson, Kolar, Eboigbe
- Julian Love resumes practicing, Ty Okada DNP
On the spread. Laying a touchdown at -115 with an offense that has struggled converting third and short leaves backdoor exposure: the Chargers forced five turnovers against Buffalo and still lost only by eight, Harbaugh teams play slow and shorten games, and a late Chargers touchdown lands on the key number. Heavy one sided handle on Seattle with the book holding at 7 can also mean the book is comfortable taking Seattle money.
On the total. Seattle's offense has been scoring freely with Darnold back, the Chargers defense is missing interior linemen, and a Seattle rout at 30 plus with a garbage time Chargers score clears 43 easily. The under move may simply be the market catching up, leaving no edge.

Spread.Market first: Seattle -7 is the market pricing a 2-1 home team with a top three scoring defense against an 0-3 Chargers side scoring 14.7 points a game with Herbert looking lost in Mike McDaniel's scheme. The lookahead sat near Seattle -3 and the move to -7 came after Los Angeles kept failing on offense, so most of the obvious story is already in the number. What the news adds: Julian Love returned to practice Wednesday after Seattle played Washington without both starting safeties and gave up 33, while the Chargers keep bleeding offensive line and defensive front bodies (Awosika, Tomlinson, Eboigbe DNP, Kolar out at tight end). What it subtracts: -7 costs -115 almost everywhere, and Seattle's offense has been poor in short yardage, which caps blowout margins. I side with Seattle but only as a lean at -7, not a bet, because the market has already moved four points toward my view.
Total. The total opened 44 to 45.5 and has come down to 42.5 at most books, with FanDuel still at 43.5. Under case: the Chargers score 14.7 a game behind a depleted line and face a defense allowing 5.0 yards per pass attempt, Chargers games are 8-2 to the under in their last ten, and Seattle's offense stalls in short yardage. Over case: Seattle has scored 31 or more in back to back weeks, the Chargers defense allows 25.3 and may be without Tomlinson and Eboigbe up front, and weather looks mild. I lean under only at the higher 43 to 43.5 numbers, where the Chargers' scoring ceiling does the work.
Where our number looks wrong. The rating still leans heavily on Seattle's 14-3 2025 prior and on Los Angeles as a roughly average team; it does not see the Chargers' offensive line attrition or the scheme dysfunction reported this week, which argues its Seattle lean is directionally fair. But the calibration map stretches big margins, and Seattle's own short yardage offense and a defense that just allowed 33 without its safeties argue the 10.8 is too large. I would put fair nearer 8 than 10.8.
- Line moved from Seattle -3 to -7, Seattle heavy in handle, Seattle lost 33-31 at Washington
- Herbert and McDaniel scheme mismatch, offensive line injuries
- Total opened 44.5 and fell to 42.5; Seattle scored 31 plus in consecutive weeks
- Scoring and yards per pass attempt rankings for both teams
- Chargers under 8-2 in last ten games
- Chargers and Seahawks injury reports list multiple Chargers offensive starters out
- Seattle 2-1 after loss to Washington, Darnold 379 yards and 2 late interceptions
- Chargers 0-3, Seattle defense leads league in yards per play allowed, spread 6.5 to 7
On the spread. Seattle's 33-31 loss showed interception risk in Darnold and a defense that cannot close drives (3 of 13 on third down). The Chargers are 0-3 against a rising price, Herbert and Harbaugh have a strong record as underdogs, and a touchdown-or-less game lands on the hook. If Love and Okada are out the secondary is thin.
On the total. Seattle scored 33 and the game included 64 combined points in their last outing; Chargers turnovers and short fields could inflate scoring. A line that has dropped this far offers less value at 42.5.

Spread. The strongest explanation for Seattle -7 is simple: a 2-1 home team with the league's best yards per play allowed, facing a winless road team whose offense is thin. The Chargers are missing two offensive linemen (Awosika and Pipkins out), WR Thompson and TE Kolar, with Lance questionable behind Herbert and McConkey banged up. Seattle's offense just put up 33 points and 379 passing yards from Darnold, and the secondary concerns (Love, Okada questionable) are real but Seattle still allowed only 4.0 yards per play last week. The Chargers turnover luck (5-1 in Buffalo) did not convert, which points to an offense that cannot finish. I lean Seattle at -7 -115 but the price is taxed and 7 is a key number, so this is a lean and not a bet.
Total. The total has fallen from 44 to 42.5 at most books, so some of the Chargers offensive issues are priced. Still, the incremental evidence points lower: two Chargers starting linemen out, WR Thompson and TE Kolar out, and Seattle's defense leads the league in yards per play allowed. Weather is neutral (mid 60s, light wind). The over case is Seattle's offense, which scored 33 and moves the ball through Smith-Njigba, plus a possibly thin Seattle secondary. I lean under at 42.5 -102 at DraftKings and would not pay a higher number.
- Consensus Seahawks -7, moneyline Seahawks -350
- Total opened 44.5 and sits 42.5; projected score 26 to 19
- Forecast 66 to 69 degrees, 6 mph wind, no precipitation
- Seattle defense 4.0 yards per play allowed vs Washington
The call, written up
Los Angeles at Seattle, Seattle -7. The Chargers are 0-3 and score 14.7 points per game (NFL Game Center, 9/30), and their Wednesday report (Chargers.com, 9/30) listed guard Kayode Awosika, tight end Charlie Kolar, receiver Brenen Thompson and defensive linemen Dalvin Tomlinson and Justin Eboigbe as did not practice. Seattle safety Julian Love resumed practice Wednesday while Ty Okada did not (NBC Sports, 9/30). The counter-case: -7 costs -115 on a key number, Seattle just allowed 33 to Washington, and a late Chargers touchdown can land on seven. All three panels are on Seattle, one ranks it among its strongest spread sides, and none bets it. Take Seattle -7 at -115 at BetMGM.
Under 43.5. The total opened 44 to 45.5 across books and has fallen to 42.5 at most, with FanDuel still at 43.5. The Chargers score 14.7 points per game and held Awosika, Kolar and Thompson out of Wednesday practice (Chargers.com, 9/30), and Chargers games are 8-2 to the under in their last ten (SI, 9/30). Forecasts for Lumen Field range from light showers near 60 to dry upper 60s with light wind. The counter-case: Seattle's last game produced 64 points and Sam Darnold threw for 379 yards. Under 43.5 at -115 at FanDuel.
How to read this page
The calls come first on this page: the spread and the total, each a Pick or a Lean, then Ace, Stack and Buck one by one. The market's number, our number and the gap between them sit further down as MODEL CONTEXT: that is the input our analyst panel argued from, not a call of its own. A Pick is our strongest call and goes on the record. A Lean is which way we lean on a game and is not a pick. The meter shows how strongly the panel backs the call. It is not a probability or a hit rate.

The numbers the panel argued from. Our models price a game, the panel makes the call, and the calls above are the call. Nothing in this block is a call. Where the panel's written case cites a raw number of its own, the calibrated number is the one printed here.
The totals number is a registered candidate that loses to the closing total: across 1,087 held out games it missed the combined score by 10.46 points on average and the closing total missed by 10.189, ahead of us in all 4 of those seasons, so it never posts to the board and never enters the record on its own.

Trends and splits
Descriptive context, every line with the games it counts. Filters like these did not hold up as predictors in our testing, so none of this feeds a call and none of it is a reason a pick wins. Situational splits look back 3 seasons and need at least 8 decided games to be shown at all. Records against the number and on the total are graded at each game's closing line, the last quote before kickoff at DraftKings, FanDuel and BetMGM. A game we have no capture for is graded at the number the league data carries.
