Cincinnati Bengals at Miami Dolphins. Lean: Miami Dolphins +7. Lean: Under 44.
The call
The panelists
- Miami's official report lists Beal, Douglas, Joly and Taylor out, with Woodard, Grant, Wright and Duck questionable.
- The official combined report lists Dugger out and Chase, Higgins, Cook and Bozeman questionable.
- The NFL game listing identifies Cincinnati, 2-2, at Miami, 0-4, at Hard Rock Stadium.
On the spread. If Chase and Higgins both clear and Miami's depleted receiving group cannot give Willis viable early-down answers, Cincinnati's defensive and offensive advantages can still produce a margin beyond seven.
On the total. The under is correctly supported if Cincinnati loses one or both star receivers, Miami's depleted passing group stalls again, or showers interrupt rhythm. The line movement shows that this risk has already attracted respected support.

Spread.Market first: Cincinnati is laying a touchdown because Miami is 0-4, starts Malik Willis, and has officially lost a receiver, tight end, edge and corner. The market has also been willing to back Cincinnati despite its large public support. The contrary case is already meaningful: the spread has fallen from the 7.5 to 8.5 opening range to 6.5 to 7, and the captured +7 restores the key number. Cincinnati still has Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins listed questionable, while Kyle Dugger is out. Miami's number is only a lean, not a bet, because its own missing pass catchers limit Willis and the Bengals' injured stars may still play.
Total.Market first: the lower total reflects Miami's 0-4 offense under Willis, confirmed absences for Douglas and Joly, and the possibility that Chase or Higgins misses the game. It has already fallen from 46.5 at DraftKings and FanDuel open to the captured 43.5. The over remains a modest lean only because 43.5 sits below the early market and the outdoor forecast is warm, with manageable wind. Miami's recent 15-10 loss to Minnesota illustrates the under case, and showers plus a 13 mph southeast wind add variance. Our 47.37 model supports over directionally, but its historical accuracy trails market and it does not read the injury table, so it cannot turn this into a bet.
Where our number looks wrong. The spread model's 5.2 home number is not a usable independent edge: its own evaluation shows no ATS advantage, it is still preseason-prior heavy in Week 5, and it does not incorporate the confirmed Miami absences or Cincinnati's uncertain top receivers. Its small gap should not be promoted into a bet.
- DraftKings splits page showed Cincinnati -6.5 with most listed spread tickets and handle on Cincinnati, confirming the market is not fading the favorite merely on public sentiment.
- Forecast for the open-air Miami Gardens venue showed 88°F, 13 mph southeast wind and slight shower and thunderstorm risk.
- Miami's official injury report lists Douglas and Joly out.
- The official Week 5 report lists Chase and Higgins questionable.
- Chase officially questionable, practiced fully Friday, trending toward clearance
- Chase likely to play if cleared Saturday; Higgins did not practice Friday, questionable; Miami WR Douglas unlikely, Joly and Beal did not practice
- Miami 0-4 after a 15-10 loss at Minnesota; no game above 13 points
On the spread. If Chase is not cleared and Higgins sits, Burrow throws to Tinsley and depth receivers behind a line that cannot run the ball, and a 7 point road spread with no running game is a lot to lay. Cincinnati's defense allows 5.7 yards per play, Miami's points have all come in low scoring games where a backdoor cover at 7 is live, and the model also sides with Miami.
On the total. Miami's defense has allowed points on half of opponent drives and Burrow has a soft matchup against a defense that allows easy completions; if Chase plays, Cincinnati can reach 30 by itself, and a Miami garbage time score or a defensive touchdown pushes this over 44. Our totals model also sits on the over.

Spread. The strongest explanation for that drop is the Week 4 injuries to Ja'Marr Chase (concussion) and Tee Higgins (adductor), plus a Bengals run game that produced almost nothing against Jacksonville. The Friday news moves toward Cincinnati: Chase practiced fully Friday and Zac Taylor said he would likely play if an independent neurologist clears him Saturday. If he plays, the discount the market built in for the receivers is mostly gone while the price stays at 7. Higgins did not practice Friday and is the real doubt. I lean Cincinnati -7 at FanDuel -105, not a bet, because Chase still needs Saturday clearance and the Bengals defense allows yards at a bottom ten rate.
Total.Over case: Miami allows 25.3 points per game, gives up a league high completion rate, and Burrow just threw for 428 yards; our model says 47.4, about 46.2 after its known upward bias. Under case: Miami has scored 13, 13, 10 and 10 and its four games have averaged roughly 37 combined points; Cincinnati cannot run, so drives can stall in the red zone, and the receiver group may still be thin. The model's positive Miami offense bump looks wrong given what the Dolphins have shown. For the over to land, Cincinnati needs about 30 or Miami needs its best game of the season. I lean under 43.5, not a bet, because the Chase return adds real upside to Cincinnati's scoring.
Where our number looks wrong. The rating is still mostly a preseason prior and does not see that Miami's offense has been historically bad through four weeks (no game above 13 points) under a new coach and a new quarterback; Miami +5.2 overrates the Dolphins.
- Bengals 2-2 after 22-17 loss to Jacksonville; Chase in protocol, Higgins day to day
- CIN 24.3 points per game scored, 21.3 allowed; MIA 11.5 scored, 25.3 allowed; Miami allows a league high completion rate
- Miami points by game 13, 13, 10, 10
- Team scoring and yards per play splits for both teams
- Preview projects a game in the 24 to 13 range with the total at 42.5
- Bengals first Week 5 injury report: Chase concussion protocol, Higgins DNP, Burrow full.
- Taylor did not rule out Chase or Higgins, day to day.
- Chase still in concussion protocol, Higgins set for limited practice.
On the spread. Cincinnati's defense and Burrow against a Miami offense that cannot reach 14 points is a fair reason for the 7. If Chase clears protocol and Higgins plays, the receiver discount disappears and Miami's scoring problems dominate. A 3-point or 10-point Cincinnati win both fit the profile.
On the total. If Chase and Higgins both play, Cincinnati's offense is intact and a 27 to 17 type script clears 43.5. Cincinnati's defense has been weak enough that Miami's 13-point ceiling could be exceeded, and Willis can add rushing points.

Spread. The market makes Cincinnati a full touchdown road favorite, and the strongest explanation is simple: Miami is 0-4, has not topped 13 points in a game, and is on a new coach with Malik Willis at quarterback, while Burrow is healthy and practiced fully. The move is toward Miami, driven in part by Cincinnati's receiver injuries: Chase is in concussion protocol, Higgins has groin and neck issues and missed Wednesday, and Iosivas is out after thumb surgery. Cincinnati also lost two straight. I could not confirm Friday final designations. Taking 7 points with a bad offense is not an edge by itself, so this is a small lean on the number and on the receiver uncertainty, not a bet.
Total.Miami has scored 13 or fewer in each of four games and has four offensive touchdowns all season, and Cincinnati's passing game is short Chase, possibly Higgins, and Iosivas. Both offenses have a reason to stall. The total opened between 42 and 46.5 depending on book and sits at 43.5 to 44, so DraftKings and FanDuel have come down three points while betMGM moved up, a mixed signal. The over case is that Cincinnati's 2025 defense was poor by EPA and a healthy Burrow against a winless team can score in a hurry, and a Cincinnati lead can bring Miami garbage time points. I lean under at 43.5 but only as a lean, since the injury news is public and the under price is not cheap.

The call, written up
Cincinnati at Miami, Miami +7. Miami is 0-4 and has not scored more than 13 points in any game, but its official Oct. 9 report lists receiver Caleb Douglas, tight end Justin Joly, edge Rob Beal Jr. and cornerback Reese Taylor out. Cincinnati has Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins questionable: Chase practiced fully Friday and needs clearance Saturday, while Higgins did not practice. The counter-case, from the one panel that took Cincinnati: if Chase plays, the receiver discount is gone, and Miami's offense has not shown it can score. Take Miami +7 at BetMGM, -110.
Under 44. The total opened between 42 and 46.5 depending on the book. Miami has scored 13, 13, 10 and 10, and Cincinnati may be short Chase or Higgins. The counter-case, from the one panel on the Over: Chase practiced fully Friday, Miami allows 25.3 points per game, and Cincinnati can score on its own. Weather reports conflicted, so none is assumed.
How to read this page
The calls come first on this page: the spread and the total, each a Pick or a Lean, then Ace, Stack and Buck one by one. The market's number, our number and the gap between them sit further down as MODEL CONTEXT: that is the input our analyst panel argued from, not a call of its own. A Pick is our strongest call and goes on the record. A Lean is which way we lean on a game and is not a pick. The meter shows how strongly the panel backs the call. It is not a probability or a hit rate.

Model context
The numbers the panel argued from. Our models price a game, the panel makes the call, and the calls above are the call. Nothing in this block is a call. Where the panel's written case cites a raw number of its own, the calibrated number is the one printed here.
The totals number is a registered candidate that loses to the closing total: across 1,087 held out games it missed the combined score by 10.46 points on average and the closing total missed by 10.189, ahead of us in all 4 of those seasons, so it never posts to the board and never enters the record on its own.

Trends and splits
Descriptive context, every line with the games it counts. Filters like these did not hold up as predictors in our testing, so none of this feeds a call and none of it is a reason a pick wins. Situational splits look back 3 seasons and need at least 8 decided games to be shown at all. Records against the number and on the total are graded at each game's closing line, the last quote before kickoff at DraftKings, FanDuel and BetMGM. A game we have no capture for is graded at the number the league data carries.
