Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars. Lean: Under 42.5. No call on the spread.
The call
The panelists
- Houston's Oct. 14 official injury report lists Brown, Montgomery, Pitre and Al-Shaair as DNP, while Jacksonville lists Brown as DNP and several defensive backs as limited.
- Jacksonville placed Anton Harrison on injured reserve before the Wembley game.
- Houston's preview says Anderson recorded three sacks in the Week 5 win over Tennessee.
On the spread. Jacksonville has already won in London this week while Houston travels Thursday, and Houston could be without Montgomery, Pitre, Brown and Al-Shaair. If those absences remain material while Jacksonville's limited defensive backs play, the market's Jacksonville rating is justified.
On the total. Jacksonville's secondary is carrying multiple availability questions, Houston still has Stroud and Collins available, and the forecast does not presently show severe wind. A dry field and active Jaguars defensive backs would weaken the under case.

Spread. The market's -2.5 first reflects Jacksonville's 4-1 record, its second consecutive week in London, and Houston's 1-4 start. It has also moved from Jaguars -3 at several books, which indicates that support for Houston has already taken the full field goal off the board. Houston's case at +2.5 is its pass rush, highlighted by Will Anderson Jr.'s three sacks in the Week 5 win, against a Jaguars line that lost Anton Harrison to injured reserve. Jacksonville's cluster of limited and absent defensive backs also matters against C.J. Stroud and Nico Collins. Our -3.4 Jacksonville number is only 0.9 points from market and is not a pricing edge. Houston +2.5 at plus money is a small, price-dependent lean, not enough for a unit before practice statuses settle.
Total. The market's 42.5 first reflects two defenses with disruptive fronts, Houston's shorthanded backfield and line, and a total that has already fallen from 43.5 to 44 at most captured books. Jacksonville's 19-17 London game last week reinforces the defensive explanation, but it is only one game and the Jaguars also produced a late touchdown and field goal. The Wednesday weather forecast introduces a possible light shower around the local 14:30 kickoff, though the forecast remains changeable. Our 42.47 projection supplies no independent separation and its historical mean ran high. Under 42.5 at -110 is a modest lean because the current conditions align with the lower-scoring case, but the market move has removed the value needed for a bet.
- The Met Office's Oct. 14 Wembley forecast shows sunny intervals through early afternoon, then a possible light shower at 14:00 with a 50% precipitation chance.
- Houston's official Wednesday report lists Montgomery and Brown as DNP.
- Jacksonville's official Week 5 report records its 19-17 London win over Philadelphia.
- SI preview lists Texans +3, total 43.5, records 1-4 and 4-1, Jaguars top ten EPA per play on both sides, Texans won three of last four meetings
- Texans beat Titans 26-3 for first win, Stroud 26 of 34 for 261 yards and a rushing TD
- Montgomery considered week to week per DeMeco Ryans, Woody Marks likely lead back
On the spread. Houston holds the recent series edge, winning three of the last four meetings, its defense held Tennessee to three points and Stroud has zero interceptions through five games. If Harrison is out, Jacksonville's line is weaker against Anderson and Hunter, and the move from 3 to 2.5 may reflect sharp money on Houston rather than noise. Divisional games between these teams tend to be close, so a Jaguars win by one or two is a live loser.
On the total. Missing safeties on both sides (Pitre doubtful, Murray uncertain) can open explosive plays, Jacksonville ranks 22nd in yards per play allowed, and Stroud has thrown no interceptions, so a 24-20 type game clears 42.5. A total that has already dropped 1.5 points is where unders often run out of value.

Spread.Market first: Jacksonville is 4-1 and top ten in EPA per play on both sides of the ball, Houston is 1-4 and only just snapped a four game losing streak with a 26-3 win over a winless Tennessee team. On a neutral field that profile supports a Jaguars favorite of about a field goal, and the market opened there before drifting to 2.5 across all five captured books. What the news adds: Jacksonville played in London last week and stays there, while Houston makes the transatlantic trip, a small but real preparation edge for the Jaguars. Houston is likely without RB David Montgomery (groin, did not practice, listed doubtful) and S Jalen Pitre (shoulder, doubtful). What subtracts: Jacksonville RT Anton Harrison is reported on IR with a knee issue, and Houston's defense, led by Will Anderson Jr., is good enough to keep this a one score game. At 2.5 a three point Jaguars win cashes, so I hold a lean on Jacksonville, not a bet.
Total.Market first: the total opened 43.5 to 44 and has been bet down to 42.5 everywhere, which reflects two good defenses (Jacksonville fourth in EPA per play allowed, Houston ninth in yards per play allowed) and a run of unders (Jaguars 4-1, Texans 3-2). Our totals model says 42.47, and after removing its known 1.2 point high bias it sits near 41.3, a mild under read. Under support: Houston likely loses Montgomery, a 9:30 ET body clock start for the travelling team, and a divisional game. Over support: Houston likely also loses Pitre and Jacksonville's safety Murray is uncertain, Stroud has played clean, and Jacksonville allows a lot of yards per play. Much of the under case has already been priced by the 1.5 point drop, so this is a lean under, not a bet.
Where our number looks wrong. The model rates Houston at 1.12 with 7.48 expected wins, still leaning on the 12-5 2025 prior, while the 2026 Texans started 0-4 and are 1-4 ATS. If anything it may overrate Houston, but the gap to market is small and the model has no proven ATS edge, so I do not lean on it. It also does not see that Jacksonville is already in London while Houston travels.
- Jaguars playing back to back London games, Eagles at Tottenham then Texans at Wembley
- Unders 4-1 for Jaguars and 3-2 for Texans, Jacksonville fourth in defensive EPA per play, Houston defense ninth in yards per play allowed
- DraftKings had Texans +3 and Jaguars -3 with total 43.5; trends: Texans 1-4 ATS, Jaguars 3-2, Houston won three of last four meetings.
- Game confirmed at Wembley, 9:30 a.m. ET, Jaguars designated home team.
On the spread. Jacksonville has been the better team by EPA, has already acclimated to London, plays a Houston team with a short week of travel, and Montgomery, Al-Shaair, Pitre and T. Brown all missed Tuesday practice. If Houston is missing several of those on Sunday, 2.5 is not enough. A Jaguars win by three exactly would lose this side only at 3, and the key numbers sit right here.
On the total. A dry day with Stroud efficient and a thin Jaguars secondary would push this over; a wet, windy Wembley with two strong defenses and a likely Montgomery absence would push it under.

Spread. The strongest explanation for Jacksonville -2.5 is simple: the Jaguars are 4-1, top ten in EPA per play on both sides of the ball, and beat Philadelphia in London last week, while Houston is 1-4. The market has shaded from the 3 open to 2.5 at most books, so the number is already close to a pure team-strength gap with zero home field at a neutral venue. What the price may overstate is the record gap: Houston's 1-4 start has not come with bad quarterback play (Stroud has six touchdowns and no interceptions) and its defense is ninth in yards per play allowed. Jacksonville needed a last-second field goal against Philadelphia and its defense is only 22nd in yards per play. There is no hard injury edge: Montgomery and Pitre did not practice Tuesday but are not season-altering, and the Jaguars secondary has several limited players. Weather is unverified.
Total. The total has already fallen from 44 to 42.5 at most books, so the market has priced the lean-under case: the under is 4-1 in Jaguars games and 3-2 in Texans games, both defenses grade well (Jacksonville fourth in EPA per play, Houston ninth in yards per play allowed), and Wembley in mid-October is often damp. On the over side, Stroud is playing cleanly, Jacksonville's defense is only 22nd in yards per play, and several Jaguars defensive backs are limited in practice. Without a verified weather forecast or a skill-player absence, this is a coin flip at 42.5 and the generic under narrative is not enough.
- DraftKings total 43.5 with under 4-1 in Jaguars games; our captured books show 42.5.
The call, written up
Under 42.5. The total opened between 43.5 and 44 at four books and at 42.5 at FanDuel, and now sits at 42.5 at all of them. That prices two defenses that grade well (Jacksonville fourth in EPA per play allowed, Houston ninth in yards per play allowed) and a run of unders, 4-1 in Jaguars games and 3-2 in Texans games. The counter-case is a clean Stroud and a Jacksonville defense that allows yards. The captured play is Under 42.5 at -108 at DraftKings.
How to read this page
The calls come first on this page: the spread and the total, each a Pick or a Lean, then Ace, Stack and Buck one by one. The market's number, our number and the gap between them sit further down as MODEL CONTEXT: that is the input our analyst panel argued from, not a call of its own. A Pick is our strongest call and goes on the record. A Lean is which way we lean on a game and is not a pick. The meter shows how strongly the panel backs the call. It is not a probability or a hit rate.

Model context
The numbers the panel argued from. Our models price a game, the panel makes the call, and the calls above are the call. Nothing in this block is a call. Where the panel's written case cites a raw number of its own, the calibrated number is the one printed here.
The totals number is a registered candidate that loses to the closing total: across 1,087 held out games it missed the combined score by 10.46 points on average and the closing total missed by 10.189, ahead of us in all 4 of those seasons, so it never posts to the board and never enters the record on its own.
Trends and splits
Descriptive context, every line with the games it counts. Filters like these did not hold up as predictors in our testing, so none of this feeds a call and none of it is a reason a pick wins. Situational splits look back 3 seasons and need at least 8 decided games to be shown at all. Records against the number and on the total are graded at each game's closing line, the last quote before kickoff at DraftKings, FanDuel and BetMGM. A game we have no capture for is graded at the number the league data carries.

The context, and where the numbers come from
The context we can hand you free
Rest. Jacksonville Jaguars 7 days · Houston Texans 7 days Rest comes straight from the schedule. Be careful reading it as an edge: we tested rest as an input to our number and it made out of sample error worse, so it is context, not a signal.
Venue. Neutral site: this game is played at Wembley Stadium, outdoors, not at Jacksonville Jaguars's stadium. The schedule names a designated home team, so the roof and surface it carries describe a building nobody plays in tonight; we print the real venue instead and take no home field for either side. Neither roof nor surface is an input to our number. They are here because you asked what the game looks like, not because we priced them.
