Keys to the game
  • Official Wednesday injury report lists Maye full, and lists Hall, Mitchell, Parham and Ossai as estimated DNP for the Jets walkthrough.
  • Maye posted five total touchdowns in New England's 45 to 17 Week 5 win over Las Vegas.
  • The Jets beat Cleveland 17 to 12, recording eight sacks; Smith was 17 of 30 for 182 yards and took four sacks.
What beats it

On the spread. The market may be correctly protecting seven because New York's defense just generated eight sacks and Hall, Mitchell or Parham could progress later in the week. New England also listed two DNP cornerbacks plus numerous limited defensive backs and tackles, which would make laying seven fragile.

On the total. Maye's five touchdown Week 5 and New England's long list of limited or absent defensive backs create a direct path to an over, especially if Hall and the Jets' other offensive DNPs progress. Dry conditions and forecast wind around 11 mph do not independently suppress offense.

Read Ace's full case

Spread.Market first: New England is laying a touchdown because it enters off a 45 to 17 home win, while the Jets scored only 17 against Cleveland and began Week 6 with four offensive contributors estimated as nonparticipants. The split market, with -7 at BetMGM and -7.5 elsewhere, shows that the injury and recent form cases are already substantially priced. Still, Patriots -7 is a lean. Maye practiced fully after a five touchdown Week 5, whereas Hall, Mitchell and Parham were estimated DNP on Wednesday. The Jets can counter with their front, which produced eight sacks versus Cleveland, and New England has extensive secondary and tackle participation concerns.

Total.Market first: the total fell from 44.5 to 43.5 at several books despite New England's 45 point Week 5 output, a sensible response to the Jets' low scoring profile and Wednesday absences at running back, receiver and guard. Under 43.5 at the captured FanDuel -105 is a small lean, not a bet. New York's 17 to 12 win over Cleveland showed a defense capable of creating negative plays, and Hall's status matters to both its rushing efficiency and game script. The over case is real: Maye just accounted for five touchdowns, New England has several injured defensive backs, and the current forecast is dry with moderate wind. Our 42.54 total adds little because its historical holdout error trails the market.

Where our number looks wrong. The model's calibrated -10.7 leans too heavily on priors and stretches a raw 8.4 point home margin. It does not price the Jets' recent pass rush or New England's unusually broad defensive back and tackle injury list, and its documented ATS record gives no basis to promote the model gap.

More key facts
  • Official Wednesday report lists Hall, Mitchell and Parham as estimated DNP and Sadiq limited.
  • New York beat Cleveland 17 to 12; Smith went 17 of 30 for 182 yards and the Jets defense generated eight sacks.
  • The extended Foxborough forecast listed Oct. 18 as mostly sunny, 54 F, wind around 11 mph and 0.00 inches precipitation.

Keys to the game
  • Patriots beat Raiders 45-17; Maye five total TDs; NE 3-2; Mack Hollins out with calf injury
  • Jets beat Browns 17-12, Smith four sacks and a lost fumble, Allen 116 rushing yards, Jets 2-3
  • Week 6 Wednesday practice participation for Jets and Patriots
What beats it

On the spread. Division underdogs getting a touchdown are a classic spot, and the Jets defense has been the better unit. If Davis and Prunty sit and Gonzalez is limited, Garrett Wilson can find space, and Braelon Allen ran for 116 yards last week without Hall. Maye's early season turnover problem could return, and a one score Jets game lands on 7 or less often in a low total divisional matchup.

On the total. Maye and the Patriots offense just scored 45 and 29 in consecutive weeks, and a depleted New England corner group could hand the Jets easy completions. A single defensive or special teams score pushes a 24-17 type game over 43.5.

Read Stack's full case

Spread.Market first: New England at 7 to 7.5 reflects a 3-2 home team that has turned the corner, beating Buffalo 29-26 on the road and routing Las Vegas 45-17 with Drake Maye accounting for five touchdowns, against a 2-3 Jets team whose offense needed a late special teams gift to beat Cleveland 17-12. The Wednesday report tilts slightly toward New England: the Jets had Breece Hall, Adonai Mitchell and guard Dylan Parham out of practice, while Maye was a full participant. The Patriots offset is real, with corners Carlton Davis and Karon Prunty out and Christian Gonzalez limited, but Geno Smith has struggled to move the ball and took four sacks last week. I lean New England at the flat 7, where a push is a live outcome, and would not lay 7.5. Not a bet because the gap is small and the secondary questions are unresolved.

Total. The market moved the total from 44.5 to 43.5 at three books, so some of the under case is already priced. Our totals model says 42.5, and after its known 1.2 point high bias that reads closer to 41.5. The Jets offense is limited: 17 points last week, four sacks allowed, and Hall, Mitchell and guard Parham all missed Wednesday practice. Over case: New England just scored 45, Maye is hot, and the Patriots secondary is short at corner, which could let the Jets pass more efficiently than usual. On balance I lean under at 43.5 at the best captured price, a lean and not a bet, because the move has eaten the obvious value and no kickoff weather was available.

Where our number looks wrong. The model's 10.7 is partly the calibration map stretching a large raw margin (raw 8.4), and the rating still carries much of last season's 14-3 versus 3-14 split. This year's Patriots were 1-2 with a turnover prone Maye before two strong weeks, and the Jets with Geno Smith are a more functional team than the 2025 version. The rating also cannot see that New England's cornerback room is short this week. I think the fair number is near 8, not 10.7.

Keys to the game
  • Patriots 3-2 after a 44-17 win over Las Vegas, Jets 2-3; Patriots swept the Jets last season; spread around Patriots minus 7.5
  • Tuesday practice participation for both teams (Hall, Parham, Mitchell, Ossai out; Maye full; Davis and Prunty out)
What beats it

On the spread. A divisional underdog of 7.5 points with a banged-up Patriots secondary (two CBs not practicing) can stay within a touchdown, and Hall or Parham may return to practice later in the week, removing the Jets-side concerns. Late-week Patriots injuries would flip the lean.

On the total. If wind or rain is forecast the under gains value, while a healthy Hall and a Patriots defense missing corners would favor the over.

Read Buck's full case

Spread.Market-first view: a Patriots minus 7 to 7.5 reads as fair for a 3-2 defending AFC champion with a healthy Drake Maye hosting a 2-3 Jets team led by Geno Smith. The market has priced New England's 44-17 win over Las Vegas and a one-sided division history (the Patriots swept the Jets last season). The news adds a little on the home side: Jets RB Breece Hall (quad) and OG D. Parham did not practice Tuesday, WR A. Mitchell (finger) also sat, and Maye was a full participant. The offsetting piece is a banged-up Patriots secondary, with CBs C. Davis III and K. Prunty not practicing. I see no incremental evidence strong enough to take the points, and 7.5 is the key number to respect, so this is a lean on the Patriots at the shorter number rather than a bet. Practice reports Wednesday and Thursday will matter.

Total. No view on the total. The 43.5 is a fair number and the arguments cancel. Over: the Patriots offense has scored heavily lately (44 against Las Vegas), and a depleted Patriots cornerback group could let Smith move the ball. Under: the Jets offense is missing Breece Hall and an interior lineman at Tuesday practice, and the Jets were a bottom-tier scoring offense last season. The total fell from 44.5 to 43.5 at three books, so the market has already moved toward the under. Weather at Foxborough for Sunday was not available, which is the single fact that could create a lean. Without a verified forecast or incremental injury news, this is a coin flip.

Descriptive context, every line with the games it counts. Filters like these did not hold up as predictors in our testing, so none of this feeds a call and none of it is a reason a pick wins. Situational splits look back 3 seasons and need at least 8 decided games to be shown at all. Records against the number and on the total are graded at each game's closing line, the last quote before kickoff at DraftKings, FanDuel and BetMGM. A game we have no capture for is graded at the number the league data carries.
