Seattle Seahawks at Denver Broncos. Lean: Seattle Seahawks -2.5. Lean: Over 40.5.
The call
The panelists
- Surtain and Hufanga are out, and Moss is questionable after being limited all week.
- Smith-Njigba practiced fully and has no game status. Williams also has no game status, while Seattle ruled out Charbonnet, Surratt, and Drake Thomas.
- Seattle -2.5 attracted the larger share of DraftKings spread tickets and handle at the time consulted.
On the spread. Denver's home field, its pass rush, Seattle's short-road-week offensive volatility, and a Riley Moss return could make the Broncos' remaining coverage group sufficient in a low-possession game.
On the total. Both offenses rank in the lower tier by early EPA per play, Seattle's defense ranks near the top, and rain or wet conditions could make the market's downward total move prove insufficient.

Spread.Market first: Seattle -2.5 reflects Denver's struggling early offense, Seattle's still elite defensive profile, and Denver's confirmed losses of Pat Surtain II and Talanoa Hufanga. The market has also moved toward Seattle from the earliest DraftKings opener, while public spread interest is concentrated on the road favorite, so the injury news is not a hidden discovery. Still, Surtain and Hufanga being out is a material matchup problem against Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who practiced fully Wednesday and carries no status. Denver's possible return of Riley Moss would help, but it would not restore the secondary. Our number is Denver +2.4, essentially the market, so it does not create an independent edge.
Total.Market first: the fall from 42.5 to 40.5 prices a Thursday game between offenses that have been inefficient on a per-play basis, low recent Denver scoring, Seattle's strong defense, and a cool forecast with possible drizzle. That is a coherent under case and prevents a bet after the move. The over case is that 40.5 now embeds nearly all of that pessimism while Denver has lost Surtain and Hufanga, Smith-Njigba is cleared, and the forecast calls for modest wind rather than a meaningful wind game. Our 44.9 total supports the direction, but its documented high bias and inferior holdout error materially reduce its weight. I would lean over only at 40.5 and a fair captured price, not chase 41.
Where our number looks wrong. The spread model's Denver +2.4 agrees almost exactly with the market but does not capture the matchup-specific cost of Denver losing both Surtain and Hufanga against Smith-Njigba. Its poor historical ATS record means that agreement is context, not evidence for Denver.
- Seattle's offense ranks 25th in EPA per play and Denver's ranks 24th, while Seattle's defense ranks second in the cited early-season data.
- The final injury report lists Surtain and Hufanga out, with Moss questionable.
- The hourly forecast showed mid-40s temperatures, modest wind, and potential drizzle around kickoff.
- Surtain and Hufanga Out, Moss questionable, Seattle LBs Thomas and Surratt Out, Smith-Njigba full Wednesday
- Seattle 13-5-1 ATS on the road under Macdonald; Denver offense 24th in EPA per play; Seattle defense second in EPA per play
- Opened Seattle -2.5 with early movement toward the visitor; Darnold 168 and 195 passing yards in the last two games with eight sacks taken
On the spread. Denver is a home dog on a short week where travel favors the host, and Seattle is missing both starting linebackers against a Payton run game. Darnold has struggled for two weeks and Seattle fumbled three times against San Francisco. Surtain also missed Week 5 and Denver still beat the Chargers with five sacks, so the market may already have discounted his absence. A field goal game lands on 3 often, and Seattle -2.5 is exposed to a Denver push or outright win.
On the total. Two bottom tier third down offenses, a cold night near freezing, Seattle's top two defense by EPA, and Denver's pass rush that sacked Herbert five times. Darnold has taken eight sacks in two games. Short week Thursday games often play slow and sloppy, and the market may have moved on the matchup more than on weather.

Spread.Market first: Seattle -2.5 reflects two 3-2 teams, Seattle's stronger 2025 profile and a top defense by EPA per play, offset by Denver home field on a short week. The news is where the lean comes from. The Seahawks' Wednesday report lists Denver's Pat Surtain II and Talanoa Hufanga as Out after neither practiced all week, and Riley Moss as questionable after limited work with a ribs injury. That is Denver's best corner and a starting safety, with the third corner compromised. Seattle loses linebackers Drake Thomas and Chazz Surratt and RB Zach Charbonnet, but Jaxon Smith-Njigba practiced fully Wednesday and carries no designation. Some books moved from 3 to 2.5 earlier in the week, before the Denver secondary outs were confirmed, so I do not think the full secondary downgrade is in the number. Seattle's offense has been poor lately, with Darnold under 200 passing yards in each of the last two games and eight sacks taken, which keeps this a lean, not a bet.
Total.Market first: the total fell from 42.5 to 40.5 on two offenses near the bottom of the league on third down, Denver unders at 4-1, and an extended forecast that showed rain and gusty wind. The current NWS forecast puts the rain mainly before noon with skies clearing and wind turning light and near calm by evening, so the weather portion of that drop looks overdone. Denver's secondary without Surtain and Hufanga, and Seattle without two starting linebackers, both tilt toward points. Our model at 44.9, less its usual 1.2 point high bias, is still near 43.7, though it shrinks low totals upward. The under case is real: Nix under 6.0 yards per attempt in four of five games and Darnold sputtering. I hold a slight over lean at 40.5, not a bet.
Where our number looks wrong. The rating matches the market at Denver +2.4, but it learns only from final margins and cannot see that Denver will play without Surtain and Hufanga. If anything the model is a little generous to Denver this week. It also still leans on a 2025 prior where Seattle's point differential was far better than Denver's, which is reasonable.
- Thursday rain mainly before noon, clearing; Thursday night mostly clear with light north wind becoming calm
- Denver games 4-1 to the under; Seattle games 3-2 to the over
- Extended forecast cited rain and strong gusts; total dropping toward 41.5 at some books; both offenses poor on third down
- Denver out: Surtain, Hufanga; Seattle out: Charbonnet, Surratt, Thomas
- Matchup context: Seattle turnovers, Darnold sacks, Denver pass rush, short week and altitude
On the spread. Without Surtain and Hufanga the Denver secondary is badly thinned, Moss is questionable, and Seattle with Smith-Njigba available can win by a field goal or more. Seattle's turnovers last week may be noise, and a Seattle win by 3 beats this lean.
On the total. A secondary missing two starters can allow explosive plays, Seattle turnovers create short fields, and the wind forecast may not materialize. A 24-20 style game goes over 40.5.

Spread. The market makes Seattle a short road favorite at 2.5 on a short week at altitude, which is the strongest explanation for the number: Seattle was the better 2025 team by point differential per game, and Denver loses CB Pat Surtain II and S Talanoa Hufanga (both out Wednesday). That is a real subtraction from the Denver secondary, and it is already in the price after the open of 2.5 to 3 at most books. Against it, Seattle is down RB Zach Charbonnet, LBs Chazz Surratt and Drake Thomas, and Darnold has been sacked eight times in two games while Seattle committed four turnovers in its loss to San Francisco. Denver's pass rush produced five sacks on Herbert last week and both of its best wins came at home. Nix has been inefficient, so this is close to a coin flip with a small home lean. Taking the hook at 2.5 with the better price at FanDuel is a lean only, not a bet, because the Denver secondary losses are a genuine offset.
Total. The total has already fallen from 42.5 to 40.5 at four books, which prices both offenses poorly. Nix has averaged under 6.0 yards per attempt in four of five games, Darnold threw for 168 and 195 yards in his last two, and both offenses rank near the bottom in third-down conversion. Covers reports rain and strong wind gusts in the Denver extended forecast, which I could not verify with a primary forecast, so I treat it as soft. Over case: Denver is without both Surtain and Hufanga, Seattle gave the ball away four times last week, and short fields from turnovers add points.
- Offensive efficiency, weather mention and total movement context
- Denver defensive backs Surtain and Hufanga out

The calls come first on this page: the spread and the total, each a Pick or a Lean, then Ace, Stack and Buck one by one. The market's number, our number and the gap between them sit further down as MODEL CONTEXT: that is the input our analyst panel argued from, not a call of its own. A Pick is our strongest call and goes on the record. A Lean is which way we lean on a game and is not a pick. The meter shows how strongly the panel backs the call. The numbers the panel argued from. Our models price a game, the panel makes the call, and the calls above are the call. Nothing in this block is a call. Where the panel's written case cites a raw number of its own, the calibrated number is the one printed here.
The totals number is a registered candidate that loses to the closing total: across 1,087 held out games it missed the combined score by 10.46 points on average and the closing total missed by 10.189, ahead of us in all 4 of those seasons, so it never posts to the board and never enters the record on its own.

Trends and splits
Descriptive context, every line with the games it counts. Filters like these did not hold up as predictors in our testing, so none of this feeds a call and none of it is a reason a pick wins. Situational splits look back 3 seasons and need at least 8 decided games to be shown at all. Records against the number and on the total are graded at each game's closing line, the last quote before kickoff at DraftKings, FanDuel and BetMGM. A game we have no capture for is graded at the number the league data carries.
