Miami Dolphins at New York Jets. Lean: Miami Dolphins +4.5. Lean: Under 39.5.
The call
The panelists
- Official Wednesday report lists Hall, Mauigoa, Nwangwu and Ossai as DNPs, with McDonald, Mitchell, Parham and Sweat limited.
- Official Dolphins report lists Willis as full, and Wright, Douglas, Kacmarek, Beal, Louis and Addington as limited.
- Jets reported Allen has handled Hall's absence and had 17 carries for 78 yards against New England.
On the spread. Miami's 0-5 start, Achane's season-ending absence and a thin receiving group may make the downward move fully justified. Allen's recent production also reduces the impact of Hall's unresolved status, and a Jets injury upgrade would weaken the Miami case.
On the total. Miami's offense has produced only 14.0 points per game, Achane is unavailable for the season, and Hall's possible absence could further reduce the Jets' ceiling. If Miami's limited skill players remain limited or the offenses continue their existing efficiency level, the under is correctly priced.

Spread.Market-first, the Jets are -4.5 because Miami is 0-5, has scored 14.0 points per game, and lost De'Von Achane for the season, while New York has a healthier quarterback situation and home field. The counterweight is already visible in the market: the opener was -5 to -5.5 at several books and is now -4.5, with DraftKings money tilted to Miami despite more tickets on the Jets. New York also opened the week without Breece Hall and several other contributors. Miami has a rest advantage and Malik Willis was a full participant despite his thumb listing. Our -3.5 is only one point from market and has no demonstrated ATS edge, so it cannot carry this. Miami +4.5 is the small lean, not a bet.
Total.Market-first, 39.5 reflects two weak offenses, Miami's 14.0 points per game, Achane's season-ending absence and the possibility that Hall remains out. The market has not treated the total as a pure under, however: DraftKings rose from 38.5 to 39.5 in the supplied history, and reported larger DraftKings money is on the under despite more tickets on the over. Forecast conditions are mild and dry, with only a modest southwest wind, so weather does not reinforce the low number. The supplied 42.22 model is not decisive because its holdout performance trailed market and ran high. After that adjustment, it still modestly favors the over, but this is only a lean at 39.5.
Where our number looks wrong. The spread model is likely too generous to Miami. Its Jets -3.5 number lags a 0-5 Miami team without Achane, and its one-point disagreement with the -4.5 market is well inside its stated no-edge range.
- Reported betting splits showed 60% of DraftKings spread tickets on New York, but 54% of spread money on Miami.
- Forecast lists 0% precipitation, 61 F at noon, 64 F at 3 p.m., and southwest wind near 7 mph.
- Game preview listed Miami at 14.0 points per game and New York at 18.6 through the available games.
- Dolphins offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik said Achane is done for the year.
- Reported splits showed DraftKings over tickets leading 62% to 38%, while under money led 64% to 36%.
- Dolphins 2026 results: 0-5, scores 13-27, 13-35, 10-24, 10-15, 24-31; Week 6 bye
- Jets 2026 results: 2-4, including 26-19 loss at New England on 2026-10-18
- Breece Hall questionable (quad), will not practice Wednesday, not ruled out; Ossai and Mauigoa doubtful
On the spread. Miami has not covered a road game against a competent team this season, its offense has scored 13 or fewer in four of five games, and if Hall plays the Jets run game improves; a Jets win by a touchdown is a very ordinary result. Line movement toward a winless team can also be stale money that sharp books have already met at 4.5.
On the total. Miami's defense has allowed 24 or more in four of five games, and a Jets offense facing it at home could produce 27 by itself; a Miami garbage time touchdown then clears 39.5 easily, as in the 24-31 Bengals game.

Spread.Market first: Jets -4.5 is a fair read of the gap between a 2-4 Jets team with a functioning offense and an 0-5 Miami team whose passing game under Malik Willis ranks last in the league, with De'Von Achane on injured reserve. Miami has lost by 14, 22, 14, 5 and 7, so the number is not soft on its face. Divisional games at a mid single digit number reward the dog more often than not. This is a lean at +4.5, not a bet.
Total.Market first: 39.5 reflects two bottom tier offenses. Miami averages 14 points and has scored 13 or fewer four times; the Jets average under 19. Combined game totals have landed under 39.5 in three of five Miami games and four of six Jets games. Our totals model says 42.2, but its holdout bias of about 1.2 points and its shrink toward the league mean on low totals bring it near 41, which is not a reliable over signal. Over case: Miami allows 26 per game, sunny 65 degree weather, and the Jets defense is missing edge rushers. Under case: Willis cannot sustain drives through the air, Hall may sit, and a divisional game with a run heavy Miami plan shortens the clock. I lean under, but only as a lean.
Where our number looks wrong. Our model only learns from final margins, and Miami's margins understate how broken its passing game is (Willis last among starters in yards and touchdowns per AP coverage), while it does not know Achane is on injured reserve. Its Jets -3.5 is probably a touch short of fair rather than an edge for Miami; the edge case for Miami rests on rest, line movement and Jets injuries, not on our rating.
- Dolphins competitive despite 0-5 start; run game 5.5 yards per carry since Week 3; Caleb Douglas missed three games with ankle
- Dolphins scoring 13, 13, 10, 10, 24 through five games
- Jets scores 23-10, 17-20 OT, 24-31, 12-23, 17-12, 19-26
- Sunday forecast sunny, high near 65
- Prediction market listing Jets minus 5.5, total 39.5, script Jets 22 Dolphins 18
- Game listed for Sunday 10/25 1:00 PM ET at MetLife Stadium with Jets and Dolphins injury tables auto-updating
On the spread. Miami's 2025 numbers were weak and the Jets were worse, so the market may simply be paying for home field and a stable quarterback. If Willis is limited or key Miami defenders are out, the Jets cover is the better side.
On the total. A Jets defense with injuries and a Miami offense with a rebuilt backfield could trade scores in a divisional game, and any wind-free afternoon removes the main under argument.

Spread. The strongest explanation for Jets minus 4.5 is that New York is at home with a short week-to-week rest edge gap in Miami's favor (Miami has 14 days, the Jets 7), yet the market still lays more than a field goal, which says the books rate the Jets quarterback and defense above Miami's post-McDaniel roster with Malik Willis at quarterback. The line has come down from openers of 5 and 5.5 at several books to 4.5 everywhere, so sharp money has already leaned to Miami and the number now sits on 4.5 with the 5 and 6 key numbers behind it. I could not verify this week's official injury designations for either team, only a Jets note that Breece Hall remains week-to-week with a quad injury. With no verified incremental fact beyond a generic dog-plus-points case, the evidence does not support a lean that I can defend as more than a coin flip.
Total. The market total of 39.5 is already among the lowest on the Week 7 board, so the market has priced two weak offenses and an outdoor divisional game. I found no verified weather forecast and no confirmed injury news that adds or removes points, so I have no incremental evidence on either side.
The call, written up
Miami at New York Jets, Jets -4.5. As of Oct. 21, Jets RB Breece Hall, LB Kiko Mauigoa, RB Kene Nwangwu and EDGE Joseph Ossai did not practice Wednesday, while Miami QB Malik Willis was a full participant despite a thumb listing. Miami comes off a bye with 14 days of rest against the Jets' 7. The counter-case: Miami is 0-5, has scored 14.0 points per game and lost De'Von Achane for the season, while Braelon Allen gained 78 yards on 17 carries filling in for Hall. Take Miami +4.5 at -104 at FanDuel.
Under 39.5. Opening totals ranged from 38.5 to 40 and the number now sits at 39.5, with DraftKings up from 38.5 and BetMGM down from 40. The Oct. 21 forecast for Sunday is clear and dry, near 61 to 65 F with a light southwest wind, so weather adds no support either way. Miami has scored 13 or fewer in four of five games and the Jets average under 19. The counter-case from one panel: Miami has allowed 24 or more in four of five games and the mild weather removes the main under argument. Take Under 39.5 at -112 at DraftKings.
How to read this page
The calls come first on this page: the spread and the total, each a Pick or a Lean, then Ace, Stack and Buck one by one. The market's number, our number and the gap between them sit further down as MODEL CONTEXT: that is the input our analyst panel argued from, not a call of its own. A Pick is our strongest call and goes on the record. A Lean is which way we lean on a game and is not a pick. The meter shows how strongly the panel backs the call. It is not a probability or a hit rate.

Model context
The numbers the panel argued from. Our models price a game, the panel makes the call, and the calls above are the call. Nothing in this block is a call. Where the panel's written case cites a raw number of its own, the calibrated number is the one printed here.
The totals number is a registered candidate that loses to the closing total: across 1,087 held out games it missed the combined score by 10.46 points on average and the closing total missed by 10.189, ahead of us in all 4 of those seasons, so it never posts to the board and never enters the record on its own.

Trends and splits
Descriptive context, every line with the games it counts. Filters like these did not hold up as predictors in our testing, so none of this feeds a call and none of it is a reason a pick wins. Situational splits look back 3 seasons and need at least 8 decided games to be shown at all. Records against the number and on the total are graded at each game's closing line, the last quote before kickoff at DraftKings, FanDuel and BetMGM. A game we have no capture for is graded at the number the league data carries.
