Northwestern at Oregon, the dog has teeth

Northwestern has the offense to trade blows, while Oregon arrives with loose ends at the most important spot.

The price gets my attention before the logo does. Oregon owns the louder logo here, but its last result was a warning that yardage does not always turn into points. Northwestern comes in with recent offensive proof, and that is enough for me to take a hard look at the dog.

Northwestern is +145 at DraftKings, and I will take it. Northwestern produced more than 500 offensive yards against Rutgers, with five touchdowns accounted for by their offense. Oregon just lost 21-10 despite gaining 426 yards, and Illinois ran for 225. That is a useful crack for a Northwestern offense that showed it can keep the game moving. Oregon changing offensive coordinators in this spot adds another moving part. The favorite has talent, naturally. Talent does not repair stalled scoring by itself. I want the team that just demonstrated a live offense against an opponent whose run defense was exposed.

What beats it: Oregon finding better scoring execution under its new coordinator could turn its yardage edge into points. Oregon’s unresolved starting quarterback and receiving personnel also could settle in its favor, while Northwestern’s unconfirmed defensive absences could leave the secondary exposed.

This is not a case for chest-thumping. Northwestern must repeat its offensive work on the road, and Oregon can correct the details fast. The price is the reason to stand here, not a promise that the favorite stays broken.
