Notre Dame at BYU. Pick: BYU +10.5. No call on the total.
The call
The panelists
- Martin is out, while Glasker and Damuni returned to the BYU depth chart.
- Sitake said all players except Martin and OL Andrew Gentry have a chance to play; Moa is practicing.
- Notre Dame listed Moore and Onye questionable, with Viliamu-Asa back on the depth chart.
On the spread. If Martin’s replacement backfield cannot create a credible run threat, Notre Dame can dictate passing downs, and a full-strength Moore removes BYU’s best route to explosive plays.
On the total. BYU’s replacement run game may fail to sustain drives, and returning defenders plus Notre Dame’s road setting could produce the deliberate, field-position game the total move anticipates.

Spread.Market first: Notre Dame’s dominant six-game scoring profile, superior roster base, and BYU’s loss of featured back LJ Martin explain a double-digit Irish road price. BYU is 5-0, has held its last two Big 12 opponents to 10 points apiece, and gets linebacker Isaiah Glasker and safety Raider Damuni back on the depth chart. Notre Dame corner Leonard Moore remains questionable with a concussion. Our number makes Notre Dame about 8 points better, but the model has no proven ATS edge and should not drive the call. BYU plus 10.5 at even money is a modest value lean, not a bet, because Martin’s absence materially narrows BYU’s offensive margin and the returning defenders are not yet confirmed as full participants.
Total.Market first: the total fell from 48 to the captured 46 to 46.5 range because this is a top-10 matchup featuring strong recent BYU defensive results and an offense missing Martin. That adjustment deserves respect, particularly if BYU becomes less efficient on early downs. Still, the forecast is benign, not a weather-driven under setting, and Notre Dame has scored 37 or more in five of six games. BYU’s returning Glasker and Damuni help the under case, but their availability was known as the market fell and neither certainty establishes a lower scoring environment. The model’s 55 is not independently actionable because its historical error exceeds this gap, yet it supports the directional case. Over 46.5 at FanDuel’s captured minus 106 is a lean only.
Where our number looks wrong. The model’s Notre Dame minus 8 estimate appears light on the Irish’s current dominance and on BYU’s missing featured runner. It also cannot price the possible return, or limitation, of BYU’s defensive starters and Notre Dame’s questionable secondary pieces.
- The public line-history page showed Notre Dame 10 to 10.5 and a 48 opener.
- The line-history page lists a 48 opening total and subsequent moves through 46.5 to 47.5.
- BYU’s depth chart removed Martin and restored Glasker and Damuni.
- Notre Dame’s availability report retains Moore and Onye as questionable.
- DraftKings lists BYU plus 10.5 at minus 110 and total 46.5; ESPN game page shows Carr 16 TD and 1 INT, Bachmeier 8 TD and 1 INT
- BYU game week release for Notre Dame; Bachmeier Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week; BYU defensive line held Iowa State to 10 points and 200 yards
- Notre Dame beat Stanford 58-7; Carr named Golden Arm top 15; no injury update posted
On the spread. Notre Dame has covered big numbers all season on the road (49-10 at Purdue) and has the deeper, more talented lines. With BYU missing its top two running backs, the BYU offense may be one dimensional against an elite Irish defense, and a late Notre Dame score turns a 10 point game into 14 or more. The steam toward BYU may also simply be public money on a ranked home dog, not sharp information.
On the total. Notre Dame alone can reach 35 against most defenses, calm dry weather favors offense, and if BYU falls behind early it must throw, which adds possessions. Our totals model sits well above the number, and a single non offensive touchdown flips a 46.5 total.

Spread.Market first: Notre Dame is the stronger roster by a wide margin, 6-0 and scoring 44 a game, and a road number of 10.5 says the market rates the Irish roughly two touchdowns better on a neutral field before Provo home field. That is a reasonable read, and the strongest case for the number is the talent gap plus CJ Carr playing at a Golden Arm finalist level. The market already moved our way: FanDuel opened Notre Dame minus 13.5 and every book now sits at 10 to 10.5, so the value in BYU has largely been taken. What holds me on BYU as a lean is a 5-0 home side allowing 13.4 points a game, a night kickoff in a hostile building, and a game that projects low scoring, which keeps margins compressed. What subtracts is BYU running back depth: Covers lists L. Martin and S. Moa out. Lean BYU plus 10.5, not a bet.
Total.Market first: 46.5 is low for a team scoring 44 a game, and the market explains it with BYU allowing 13.4 a game, BYU games of 27 and 34 total points in its last two, and a BYU offense that likes to shorten games. The total has dropped from 48 to 50.5 at open to 46.5 everywhere, so the market has leaned under all week. Over case: Notre Dame has scored 37 or more in five of six and clear 64 degree weather with almost no wind helps passing. Under case: BYU without its top two backs may struggle to sustain drives. I lean under but the move has taken the best number.
Where our number looks wrong. The rating learns only from final margins and BYU has beaten a soft schedule by moderate scores, so plus 8 may flatter BYU relative to the Irish talent edge; it also cannot see the BYU running back injuries. Its home field is a flat 2.5, which likely undersells a night game in Provo. Those two errors roughly offset, which is why I treat the 2.4 point gap as noise.
- ESPN lists the total at 46.5 with Over minus 112 and Under minus 108 at DraftKings; Provo 66 degrees
- BYU defensive line named Big 12 line of the week after holding Iowa State to 10 points
- Game info, DraftKings spread 10.5 and total 46.5, kickoff 7:30pm ET on ABC, about 66F
- ESPN injury page for BYU showed no data
- ESPN injury page for Notre Dame showed no data
On the spread. Notre Dame has beaten every opponent by at least 11 and by 40 or more three times, and BYU's best opponent wins were by 7 and 14 against middling teams. If Carr is healthy and the Irish defense travels, a 17 to 24 point margin is plausible and the home dog loses easily.
On the total. Notre Dame has scored 37 or more in five of six games and BYU averages 34.6, so a pace-up, clean-weather game could clear 47 without much trouble.

Spread. The market explanation comes first: Notre Dame is 6-0 and has outscored opponents 44 to 11 per game, including a 49 to 10 win at Purdue and a 58 to 7 win over Stanford, so a double digit price is what a dominant number two team gets on the road. BYU is 5-0 at home-friendly altitude, allows 13.4 per game, and just beat TCU 17 to 10 on the road and Iowa State 24 to 10. The line has already moved from 11 to 10.5 at several books and from 13.5 to 10.5 at FanDuel sits at 10, so the sharpest number is slightly shorter than the retail 10.5. I found no verified availability news that shifts either side, and the BYU names in our injury scan are depth pieces or a kicker. That leaves a mild lean on the home side taking the points at 10.5, a lean and not a bet, because the case is mostly price and venue with no incremental evidence.
Total.Notre Dame scores 44 per game but against weaker opposition, and BYU allows 13.4 while scoring 34.6, so both sides of a simple matchup average land near 45 to 46. Clear, calm forecast near 64 to 66 degrees removes weather as a factor. Over arguments rest on Notre Dame's efficiency and on Carr's 16 touchdowns, while under arguments rest on BYU's controlled pace and the road defense of the Irish. With the number already moved and the two cases balanced, I do not hold an edge.

Notre Dame at BYU, Notre Dame -10.5. The case for the Irish: Notre Dame is 6-0, scores 44 a game and beat Stanford 58-7 on Oct. 10, and BYU coach Kalani Sitake confirmed RB LJ Martin is out (KSL Sports, Oct. 12). All three panels still take BYU. BYU is 5-0, allows 13.4 a game, beat Iowa State 24-10 and TCU 17-10, and returned LB Isaiah Glasker and S Raider Damuni to its depth chart (KSL Sports, Oct. 12). Notre Dame CB Leonard Moore is questionable with a concussion (WNDU, Oct. 12). The counter-case: the talent gap, CJ Carr's 16 touchdowns against one interception, and BYU's thin backfield. Take BYU +10.5 at -110 at BetMGM.
No pick on the total. The third panel holds no edge with the cases balanced.
How to read this page
The calls come first on this page: the spread and the total, each a Pick or a Lean, then Ace, Stack and Buck one by one. The market's number, our number and the gap between them sit further down as MODEL CONTEXT: that is the input our analyst panel argued from, not a call of its own. A Pick is our strongest call and goes on the record. A Lean is which way we lean on a game and is not a pick. The meter shows how strongly the panel backs the call. It is not a probability or a hit rate.

The totals number is a registered candidate that loses to the closing total: across 2,264 held out games it missed the combined score by 12.862 points on average and the closing total missed by 12.635, ahead of us in all 3 of those seasons, so it never posts to the board and never enters the record on its own.

- Notre Dame have gone OVER in 7 of their last 10Notre Dame's last 10 gradable games landed over 70% vs the consensus total. Streak continuation tested 2013-2025: 49.5% train / 46.4% held-out 2025, it does NOT persist. A real recent pattern, weigh with the matchup, not alone.
