Delaware State at South Florida. Our picks: Delaware State +37.5 (medium). Under 61.5 (medium).
How to read this page
The picks come first on this page. The market's number, our number and the gap between them sit under them as MODEL CONTEXT: that is the input our analyst panel argued from, not a call of its own. A tier is never a win probability or a hit rate. A pick is high when all three analysts take its side at a captured number and at least one of them ranks it among their strongest sides of the run or grades it a bet. Nothing tops up the tier: a week can carry many highs or none, and each write-up says why its pick earned the label. A spread of 40 or more points is never above low.
Panel reasoning
South Florida hosts Delaware State, South Florida -37.5. FanDuel opened at -37.5 and has not moved; DraftKings has sat at -36.5 all week, one of the largest spreads on the board. South Florida is 2-0 but pedestrian on offense, beating FIU 19-9 and escaping 28-24 at Army while averaging 23.5 points with new quarterback Michael Van Buren Jr. still developing under a first-year staff. Delaware State managed 514 yards in a win over Stony Brook and held William & Mary to 187 yards in a loss, though its quarterback room is unsettled and Samari Collier is limited by a shoulder injury. Our model carries no rating for Delaware State as an FCS team, so there is no calibrated edge to check the market against; all three panels are reading market and film only. The counter-case: bettors are skewed toward South Florida at 68 percent of tickets and 72 percent of money, so the price may already reflect the mismatch. Take Delaware State +37.5 (+37.5 at FanDuel).
Under 61.5. Both books have held near this number, with FanDuel dipping from 62.5 to 61.5 and DraftKings steady at 61.5 all week. Rain is forecast at the 7 p.m. kickoff, around 82 degrees with a 52 percent precipitation chance, which tends to mute early scoring for a South Florida passing game still building chemistry. Our total model projects 60.29 against the 61.5 market, a gap well inside its own noise threshold, so this is a game-script and weather lean rather than a calibrated edge. The counter-case: Delaware State gained 514 yards against Stony Brook and quarterback instability can produce broken plays. Under 61.5, best at DraftKings or FanDuel.

Panel A Delaware State +37.5 · Under 62 Read the case
Spread. Edge Labs has no spread projection because Delaware State is unrated, leaving no model-versus-market edge to claim. The market’s five-touchdown-plus price already captures the FBS/FCS talent disparity, USF’s 35-1 record against FCS opponents and its eight-game home winning streak. However, -37.5 requires roughly a 50-point USF output at the posted total. The Bulls have scored only 19 and 28 this season, including just 208 yards against FIU, and are implementing Brian Hartline’s system with substantial roster turnover. Delaware State’s unsettled quarterback room and Samari Collier’s shoulder limitation increase blowout risk, but the Hornets produced 514 yards against Stony Brook and held William & Mary to 187 yards despite losing. My rough matchup range is USF by 31-35, making +37.5 playable but not a large position. USF attracting 68% of spread bets and 72% of money suggests the favorite’s obvious advantages are hardly overlooked. I would take the extra point available at FanDuel rather than +36.5 elsewhere.
Total. Edge Labs projects 60.29, only 1.71 points below the available 62 and well inside the model’s historical error, so this is a game-script lean rather than a model edge. The under case is USF’s modest early production, Delaware State’s ability to slow William & Mary, likely favorite substitutions and a thunderstorm risk around kickoff. FanDuel also moved from 62.5 to 61.5. The over deserves respect: Delaware State gained 514 yards against Stony Brook, USF quarterback Michael Van Buren accounted for four touchdowns at Army, and quarterback instability can create short fields; moreover, only 29% of tickets but 54% of money were reported on the over. At 62, however, several plausible USF wins, 45-10, 45-13 or 48-10, stay under, with 62 offering push protection.
The spread model is effectively unusable here because it cannot rate Delaware State, so it cannot test whether -37.5 is inflated. Its framework also misses the FCS schedule-strength translation, Delaware State’s unresolved quarterback competition, likely second-half substitutions and USF’s almost entirely rebuilt roster. Any inference from USF’s rating alone would be false precision.
Panel B Delaware State +37.5 · Under 61.5 Read the case
Spread. Our rating gives no number here (Delaware State unrated), so this is a market-and-film read. USF is a capable AAC side but its offense has been pedestrian to open 2026: 19 points at home vs FIU and a 28-24 escape at Army, averaging 23.5 ppg versus 40.5 last year with new QB Michael Van Buren still developing (usforacle preview, 9/15). A team that just won by four and has not cracked 30 is being asked to win by 38. Public/preview 'working' numbers sat at -28.5 (youwager 9/13, sportsgrid), yet the live books print -36.5/-37.5 (our DB, odds-api 9/17) - the market has inflated this well past the consensus preview line, which is where I want the points. Dimers' 10k-sim model lands 48-12, a 36-point margin that pushes/loses at -37.5. Rain before 8pm at a 7pm kick can throttle early scoring. Take the points with the dog.
Total. Market 61.5; our ridge total says 60.29 (slight under). USF has not scored 30 in either game (19, 28) and Delaware State's 25.7 ppg is inflated by a D-II opponent (Bowie State) and Stony Brook - it managed 15 against real FCS competition. Dimers' sim lands ~60 combined. A 7pm kickoff carries scattered showers/thunderstorms mainly before 8pm (~82F, light 5mph wind, wtsp/wfla forecasts), which tends to mute first-half scoring, and a lopsided game means USF pulls starters and drains clock late, capping the back end. Everything points modestly below 61.5.
The rating produces no number because Delaware State is unrated, and the calibration map stretches big favorites larger; there is no priced edge here. The model also cannot see that USF's offense has sharply underperformed last year's output through two games, which is the crux of the cover question.
Panel C Delaware State +37.5 · Under 61.5 Read the case
Spread. Our rating has no number here (Delaware State is unrated as an FCS/MEAC team), so this is a pure market read. FanDuel/DraftKings both sit at 36.5-37.5, one of the largest lines of the week. USF is 2-0 but has not been dominant: 19-9 over a bad FIU team and 28-24 at Army, only 23.5 ppg with a QB (Michael Van Buren Jr., LSU transfer, named QB1 8/25/26) still building chemistry in a new offense under a first-year staff. Covering by 38+ against any FBS-caliber defense, let alone protecting the number against Delaware State's functional MEAC offense (25.7 ppg, wins over Stony Brook and Bowie State), is a big ask given USF hasn't shown that kind of scoring margin yet. Rain is forecast at kickoff, which raises turnover/miscue risk for a young USF passing attack trying to pull away early. I could not verify any USF or Delaware State injuries this week (Covers shows nothing new, no beat-writer reports found); assume health as-is.
Total. Our totals model has USF/Delaware State at 60.29 against a 61.5 market consensus, a small gap well under its own 12.86-point lean threshold, so this is not a real model signal - it's a coin flip nudged slightly under. The dossier's captured forecast shows rain, 82F, 52% precipitation chance at kickoff (a separate general search corroborates a real shot at scattered storms in Tampa that evening), which typically dents a young, still-gelling USF passing game more than it helps. Neither offense has been especially explosive: USF's two wins came at 19 and 28 points, and Delaware State's own defense has allowed 20+ per game. I found no injury or pace news for either side this week. Lean under, but lightly - the model gap is noise-sized by its own admission and this is mostly a weather/context lean rather than a real edge.
Our model literally has no output here because Delaware State is unrated, so it isn't 'wrong' so much as silent on the one game where a number would matter most. The model's own documented weakness list flags FCS opponents as its least reliable case, and that is exactly this game - there is no calibrated read to check the market against, only the raw fact that USF's actual scoring through two games (19 and 28 points) is well short of what a -37.5 number implies it needs to produce.

The numbers the panel argued from. Our models price a game, the panel makes the call, and the picks above are the call. Nothing in this block is a pick.
Context, not a call. The spread number is our rating difference plus home field. The totals number is a registered candidate that loses to the closing total: across 2,264 held out games it missed the combined score by 12.862 points on average and the closing total missed by 12.635, ahead of us in all 3 of those seasons, so it never posts to the board and never enters the record on its own.

Confidence: medium
Three independent analyst panels (A, B and C) worked the same evidence pack and the week's news independently, each returned a side, and each then ranked its five strongest picks for the week. Every panel was on this side. Medium is a decisiveness label for how firmly the panel agreed, never a win probability: high means every panel was on this side and ranked it among the week's best; only high picks count on the record and go free.

Rating difference plus 2.5 points of home field is the rating read above. Full board: the power ratings.
Provenance: schedule and finals from the Edge Labs database (2026 season); the line is the latest capture for this game with the book named; our number is the EL rating read (in-season once a team has played, preseason before that) plus 2.5 home field, none at neutral sites, and it is context on this page rather than the call. Signals come from the trend engine, each with its real sample; a panel tier follows the rule under How to read this page and is never a win probability. Once the game kicks off this page stops computing and reads our pick lock ledger instead: the pick and the spread we were locked at, written once at kickoff, never updated, graded against that same number. Line movement comes from our permanent capture log, one book across both ends and never a capture taken at or after kickoff, so the second number is the last pregame line and after kickoff it is the close; a game the log has captured only once shows no movement rather than an invented one. Weather is the captured forecast for the venue, and the chip appears only when it is worth saying (wind at 12 mph or more, a 50 percent or better chance of rain, or 35F or colder), never on an indoor venue. Injury counts are our latest daily scan, real report rows only, and a team the scan does not cover is left out rather than shown as zero. The write-up is assembled from those same stored rows, never written around them: the case comes from the lock row, the signals from the trend engine with their own samples, the series from our game database from 2013 forward, and the scoring profiles from completed games only, each with the number of games it averages. A section with no data behind it is left out instead of filled in, it refreshes while the game is pregame, and it can never be edited once the game has kicked off. Trends are descriptive only, computed by the same shared module the write-up uses so the two cannot disagree: straight-up splits come from completed games in our database, situational splits look back three seasons and need at least eight decided games, records against the number and on the total arrive with the closing-line restore, and every line carries the games it counts. Filters like these did not hold up as predictors in our testing, so none of them enter the confidence read. The totals block is a read and not a pick: our number is EL CFB Totals v1 (edgelabs.el_cfb_totals, season 2026, model_version v1, docs/el-cfb-totals-v1.md), a registered candidate that loses to the closing total, so it never posts to the board or the record; the market total beside it is the same capture the spread comes from before kickoff and the frozen consensus the model priced against after it, and the gap is measured against whichever number is printed. The totals trends under it are the trend engine's own rows for this game, deduped on the headline, each carrying its sample. On the games the analyst panel works each week (the games our model prices off the market plus the ranked and Power Four games, at most twenty), the pick and the total call are the panel's synthesis: three independent analyst panels, the same evidence pack, their own research, one side each, tiered by the rule under How to read this page, never a win probability. A panel majority on a side is what makes a pick; without one the game is a published no-pick, printed as No pick rather than left blank. Research and context, never a guarantee, 21+.
