Tulsa at Navy. Lean: Navy -2.5. Lean: Under 49.
The call
The panelists
- Navy's Oct. 5 game preview says the Mids return home after 35 days and three consecutive road games, and identifies the prior opponents as a combined 10-4.
- Navy's Oct. 5 scouting report says Baylor Hayes missed two games after a knee injury, returned against North Texas and accounted for five touchdowns.
- Navy's Oct. 3 recap records 110 rushing yards and one conversion in 11 third-down attempts at Air Force.
On the spread. Hayes' return can sustain Tulsa's offense, and Alston plus Jones give Tulsa a credible ground answer against a Navy team that just produced 110 rushing yards and nine points. If Navy's questionable backfield pieces are limited, the favorite's narrow margin disappears.
On the total. Hayes' return and Tulsa's 44-point output against North Texas create a direct over path, while benign weather removes a common under catalyst. Navy's explosive passing profile can also turn a limited number of possessions into points.

Spread.Market first: the move from Navy minus 4.5 to minus 2.5 is most credibly a correction for Tulsa quarterback Baylor Hayes returning from a knee absence and producing five touchdowns against North Texas, alongside Navy's 1-3 start. That move has already stripped out much of the home bounce case. I still lean Navy minus 2.5 at the best captured price. Navy returns home after 35 days and three straight road games, while its losses came against opponents with a combined 10-4 record. Tulsa also arrives after allowing 45 points and 551 yards to North Texas. The case is modest, not a wager: Hayes is now active, Tulsa's rushing tandem is productive, and Navy's offense produced only 110 rushing yards and one third-down conversion at Air Force. Our minus 6.3 is supporting context only, not an ATS edge.
Total.Market first: the total fell from 53.5 to 48.5 as Navy followed its 20-point UAB output with nine points at Air Force, and the market priced in a slower Navy baseline. Navy's Air Force game had 523 combined yards but only 23 points, driven by long possessions, a 36:01 to 23:59 possession deficit and poor third-down conversion. The weather forecast is mild with little wind or rain, so it adds no under value. Tulsa's 44-45 overtime loss and Hayes' return are meaningful over cases, while the supplied total model is essentially at market. The five-point move means the market already owns the main under argument.
Where our number looks wrong. The model's Navy minus 6.3 is too assertive for a four-game refit. It cannot capture Hayes' two-game absence and return, Navy's 17 first-time collegiate starters, or Navy's recent failure to run and convert third downs.
- Tulsa's Oct. 1 box score records a 45-44 overtime loss to North Texas, with North Texas totaling 551 yards.
- The published market page lists Tulsa plus 4.5 as the opener and Navy minus 2.5 as the current spread.
- The market page lists an opening total of 53.5 and current total of 48.5, plus a 71-degree, dry forecast with 6 mph wind.
- Navy's Oct. 3 recap records a 14-9 game at Air Force, with Air Force possessing the ball for 36:01.
- Tulsa's Oct. 1 official box score records a 45-44 overtime loss to North Texas.
- Woodson (ankle) logged a three-yard completion and three rushes for three yards at Air Force; did not play at UAB
- Gutierrez 7 of 15 for 140 yards, 12 rushes for 33 yards; uncertainty over which QB starts against Tulsa
- Air Force 14, Navy 9; Navy 1 of 11 on third down, 110 rushing yards
On the spread. If Gutierrez starts again, Navy's offense has produced 29 points in two games against Group of Five defenses, and Tulsa with extra rest and Hayes healthy can win outright. The line drifting toward Tulsa since open also says sharper money sees it that way.
On the total. Tulsa's offense with Hayes healthy has scored in bunches at home, and Navy's defense has allowed 38 and 24 to conference opponents; one or two explosive plays in a game with good weather clears 49 easily, and a steamed total often overshoots.

Spread.Market first: the number opened Navy -3 to -3.5 and has settled at -2.5 everywhere, which reads as the market marking Navy down for an offense that scored 20 at UAB and 9 at Air Force with backup Jackson Gutierrez running it after starter Braxton Woodson hurt his ankle against FAU. Our number (Navy -6.3) is built on Navy's 11-2 2025 and a prior that cannot see the quarterback injury, so most of the 3.8 point gap is explained by news the model is blind to. What keeps me on Navy as a lean: Woodson returned for limited snaps at Air Force and has another week of healing, Tulsa's run defense just gave up 219 rushing yards to one North Texas back, and Tulsa's best results came against weak or rebuilding opponents while it lost 34-6 at Arkansas. Against that, Tulsa has nine days of rest after a Thursday game and Baylor Hayes is back at quarterback. It is a thin home lean at a short number, not a bet.
Total. The total has already crashed from 51 to 53.5 at open to 48.5 to 49, so the obvious under story (Navy's backup quarterback offense scoring 20 and 9, a ball control option attack shortening the game) is largely priced. Our totals model sits at 48.5, right on the market. Over case: Tulsa has scored 44 against North Texas, Navy's defense under first year coordinators gave up 38 at FAU, and the forecast is mild with light wind. Under case: Navy games with Gutierrez totaled 44 and 23, Navy went 1 of 11 on third downs at Air Force, and a possible Woodson return mostly adds rushing and clock. I side under at the best available 49 as a lean only; the movement took the value.
Where our number looks wrong. The rating does not know Navy has been playing with its backup quarterback since early in the FAU game, and its prior leans heavily on an 11-2 2025 team that returned very little production (13.8 returning production in our dossier). Navy -6.3 overstates the Midshipmen; a fair number with Gutierrez starting is closer to the market, and only a healthy Woodson pushes it toward Navy -4.
- North Texas 45, Tulsa 44 OT on Thursday; Hayes back from knee injury; White ran for 219 yards
- Navy 2026 results and kickoff details for Tulsa game, 3:30pm ET CBS Sports Network
- Navy 1-3 with losses 30-38 at FAU, 20-24 at UAB, 9-14 at Air Force
- Tulsa 3-2 with results 24-10, 23-17, 42-0, 6-34, 44-45 OT
- Navy managed one touchdown and a field goal at Air Force
- Navy is 1-3 (L 30-38 FAU, L 20-24 UAB, L 9-14 Air Force Oct 3), 0-2 in AAC play, Newberry fourth year.
- Tulsa is 3-2 (W Oklahoma State 24-10, L Arkansas 6-34, L North Texas 44-45 in overtime Oct 1); kickoff 2:30pm CDT on CBSSN at Annapolis.
On the spread. Navy at home with the option against a Tulsa defense that allowed 45 can control the clock and win by a field goal or more; Tulsa's recent losses suggest a poor team.
On the total. Tulsa's offense produced 44 last week and Navy's defense has allowed 38 and 24, so a shootout is plausible.

Spread. The market number of Navy -2.5 is roughly a home-field adjustment on top of a near-even matchup, with the line shaved from -3.5 at FanDuel and -3 at others, so money has leaned Tulsa. The strongest case for Navy is the option scheme, home field and a 2025 11-2 record, plus Tulsa having just lost a 45-44 overtime game and a 34-6 game at Arkansas. Against that, this Navy team has scored 9 and 20 in its last two games, is 1-3 with a 0-2 conference mark, and returns very little production. I could not verify quarterback status, running back availability (our scan lists two Navy backs and a tight end questionable) or Tulsa's two questionable receivers. Taking the points at plus 2.5 and -105 is a lean on a near pick'em with a thin, unverified information base, not a bet.
Total. The total opened 53.5 at several books and has fallen to 48.5, so the market has already priced Navy's low-scoring start (9 and 20 points in its last two games). Navy's option offense shortens the game, and the forecast is mild at 69 degrees with 7 mph wind, so weather adds nothing either way. The over case is that Tulsa just played a 44-45 overtime game and Navy's defense gave up 38 to Florida Atlantic. With a five-point drop already absorbed and no verified injury news, the under is a small lean at the captured 48.5 and not a bet.
The call, written up
Tulsa at Navy, Navy -2.5. The dissent notes Navy is 1-3, scored 9 and 20 in its last two games and went 1 of 11 on third down at Air Force, with Tulsa quarterback Baylor Hayes back from a knee injury, so this is Navy -2.5 at -110 at FanDuel.
Under 49. The total fell from 51 to 53.5 at open to 48.5 to 49 after Navy scored 20 at UAB and 9 at Air Force, so the main under argument is largely priced, and our totals model at 48.5 sits on the market. The over case is Tulsa's 89-point overtime game with North Texas and Hayes' return, with a mild, light-wind forecast.
How to read this page
The calls come first on this page: the spread and the total, each a Pick or a Lean, then Ace, Stack and Buck one by one. The market's number, our number and the gap between them sit further down as MODEL CONTEXT: that is the input our analyst panel argued from, not a call of its own. A Pick is our strongest call and goes on the record. A Lean is which way we lean on a game and is not a pick. The meter shows how strongly the panel backs the call. It is not a probability or a hit rate.

Model context
The numbers the panel argued from. Our models price a game, the panel makes the call, and the calls above are the call. Nothing in this block is a call.
The totals number is a registered candidate that loses to the closing total: across 2,264 held out games it missed the combined score by 12.862 points on average and the closing total missed by 12.635, ahead of us in all 3 of those seasons, so it never posts to the board and never enters the record on its own.

The total
Under 49 (Lean).
