Delaware at Middle Tennessee. Lean: Under 48.5. No call on the spread.
The call
The panelists
- Delaware's October 10 preview says Minicucci missed the Liberty game through injury and Archield made his first collegiate start. It also lists Delaware's 16 sacks and MTSU's 420.6 yards allowed per game.
- The availability page lists Minicucci as out with a leg issue based on the October 2 Liberty designation, plus two questionable Delaware receivers and one season ending running back absence. It lists no MTSU injuries, with incomplete coverage caveat.
- The official MTSU media center posted game notes for Delaware.
On the spread. If Minicucci is cleared without limitation, Delaware's experienced passing game can exploit an MTSU defense allowing 420.6 yards per game, and the market's move toward the road team will have been justified.
On the total. A healthy Minicucci creates explosive pass plays against a weak MTSU defense, and mild weather removes a weather based impediment to an over. The internal totals model also sits above the market, although its stated error is larger than this gap.

Spread.Market first: Delaware moved from an early Middle Tennessee favorite to a short road favorite, chiefly because Delaware owns the better passing profile and MTSU arrives off a 55 to 0 loss at Kansas. The more consequential input is Delaware quarterback Nick Minicucci. The team confirmed on October 10 that he missed the Liberty game with injury, while no reliable Tuesday starter announcement was found. The market has already crossed through pick, so the MTSU case is not a claim that the injury is new information. It is a small price case that Delaware is still being asked to cover on the road with either an unconfirmed return or a sophomore making his second start. MTSU is healthier on the available report, at home after 10 days off, and has a workable ground game. Take the extra half point only, not the cheaper plus 1.
Total.Market first: 48.5 is a restrained total for two defenses that have conceded yardage, reflecting each offense's low scoring output and Delaware's unsettled quarterback situation. The total has held at 48.5 in the captured major book board, so there is no confirmed broad move to chase. Under is a small lean at the best captured price. Delaware scored 14 with three quarterbacks against Liberty, and MTSU has averaged 20.8 points. The clean, mild forecast and MTSU's permissive defense are the serious over case, while the internal 51.13 total projection also points over. That model has no demonstrated market advantage and lacks quarterback availability, so it does not outweigh the current offensive uncertainty. The position is price sensitive and not a bet.
Where our number looks wrong. The supplied model's stable Delaware minus 1.3 estimate is misleading here because it does not incorporate Minicucci's leg injury, the uncertainty around his return, or the practical difference between an established starter and a first time starter. Its one tenth point gap from the market is also no actionable disagreement.
- Delaware's official preview reports Minicucci missed Liberty and gives both teams' scoring and yardage averages.
- DraftKings Network reported that Delaware used a three quarterback rotation against Liberty and described Minicucci's knee injury as the central uncertainty.
- Game time weather listing shows sunny, 76 F, 7 mph south wind, 9 mph gusts and no precipitation.
- Minicucci missed the Liberty game with a leg injury; Archield started and Bell, described as fifth string, also played; note says Minicucci likely back after the bye.
- Kansas 55, Middle Tennessee 0; Blue Raiders held to 136 yards and seven first downs.
- SportsLine game page for Delaware at Middle Tennessee lists Minicucci under team injuries with a leg issue.
On the spread. If Minicucci is limited or out, Delaware is starting a backup who could not move the ball against Liberty, and Middle Tennessee at home off a bye is the more stable side at a pick'em number. Middle Tennessee also played Marshall and Nevada close, and its 2025 loss to Delaware was by three.
On the total. If Minicucci is fully healthy, Delaware's passing game returns to its 2025 level and Middle Tennessee's defense, which allowed 28 per game, cannot stop it; the 2025 meeting landed at 59. Clear dry weather also helps both passing games.

Spread.Market first: the number opened Middle Tennessee +2.5 at most books and has been bet to +1, with FanDuel flipping from Middle Tennessee -1.5 to +1.5. The most likely driver is Delaware quarterback Nick Minicucci (leg), who missed the Oct 2 Liberty loss, with a Rotowire note on the Fox Sports game page suggesting he would likely be back after the bye. The case for Delaware is that a healthy Minicucci is the best player on the field, Delaware returns far more production, and Middle Tennessee's offense has collapsed: 13 points at Jacksonville State and a 136 yard shutout at Kansas. The case against is that I could not confirm Minicucci is starting tonight; without him Delaware went through four quarterbacks against Liberty and scored 14. The move toward Delaware has likely already priced his return, so the residual edge is thin. I lean Delaware at -1 but would not put a unit on it with the starter unconfirmed.
Total. Our totals model says 51.1, but it leans on last season's offenses and cannot see Delaware's quarterback injury. Recent form points down: Middle Tennessee scored 13 and 0 in its last two games, and Delaware scored 3 and 14 in games Minicucci missed or left. The over case is real: a healthy Minicucci led a Delaware offense that averaged 29 points in 2025, both defenses allow 25 or more, and the weather is clear and mild with light wind. I lean under at 48.5 because both offenses have been poor for a month, but it is a lean, not a bet, given the quarterback uncertainty cuts both ways.
Where our number looks wrong. The rating does not see quarterback availability. Delaware's in-season rating fell from -6.9 preseason to -9.2 largely on the Virginia and Liberty results, both played with Minicucci hurt or out, so if he starts the model probably understates Delaware by a point or two. If he does not start, the model overstates them.
- Middle Tennessee held to 136 total yards in a 55-0 loss at Kansas.
- Delaware lost 30-14 to Liberty with Minicucci out and four quarterbacks used.
- 2025 meeting: Delaware 31, Middle Tennessee 28.
- Delaware played a true freshman quarterback with Minicucci out (leg) in the Liberty game, final 30-14 Liberty
- Captured spreads Middle Tennessee +1 to +1.5, total 48.5 at major books
On the spread. If Minicucci is healthy and plays, Delaware is the better team on 2025 form and was a 2.5 point favorite at several books at the open, and Middle Tennessee just lost 0-55. Delaware also beat Middle Tennessee 31-28 in this series last October.
On the total. Both defenses allow 25 to 28 points a game, and if Delaware's healthy quarterback returns the offense can score quickly, as in the 31-28 game last year. Garbage scoring from a blowout would also push this over.

Spread. The market has this as a near pick'em with Middle Tennessee a small home underdog, and the move since the open (Delaware was a 2.5 point favorite at several books, now 1 to 1.5) shows money already came in on the Blue Raiders. The strongest explanation for that number is that both teams are 2-3 and have been run over lately: Delaware lost 3-42 at Virginia and 14-30 to Liberty, Middle Tennessee lost 0-55 at Kansas. Delaware's quarterback room is the real issue: Minicucci was out with a leg injury for the Liberty game and a true freshman played, and I found no confirmation he returns. Delaware also has two receivers questionable and its lead back out for the season per our injury scan.
Total. The total sits at 48.5 everywhere after an open of 48 to 49.5, so there is little movement to read. The case for the over is that both defenses are poor, Middle Tennessee allows 28 points a game and Delaware 25.6, and last year's meeting finished 31-28. The case for the under is that both offenses have collapsed lately: Middle Tennessee scored 0 and 13 in two of its last three, and Delaware scored 3 and 14 in its last two with its starting quarterback out. Clear, mild weather adds nothing either way. A shaky Delaware quarterback situation tilts toward fewer points, but 48.5 already prices two weak offenses, so this is a thin lean at the best under price.

The call, written up
Under 48.5. Delaware at Middle Tennessee opened between 48 and 49.5 and sits at 48.5 everywhere, so there is little move to read. The forecast is clear, 82 degrees, wind near 8 mph. Both offenses have stalled: Delaware scored 3 at Virginia and 14 against Liberty, and Middle Tennessee scored 13 and 0 in its last two. The counter-case: both defenses allow 25 or more per game, and a healthy Minicucci led last year's 31-28 meeting.
How to read this page
The calls come first on this page: the spread and the total, each a Pick or a Lean, then Ace, Stack and Buck one by one. The market's number, our number and the gap between them sit further down as MODEL CONTEXT: that is the input our analyst panel argued from, not a call of its own. A Pick is our strongest call and goes on the record. A Lean is which way we lean on a game and is not a pick. The meter shows how strongly the panel backs the call. It is not a probability or a hit rate.

Model context
The numbers the panel argued from. Our models price a game, the panel makes the call, and the calls above are the call. Nothing in this block is a call.
The totals number is a registered candidate that loses to the closing total: across 2,264 held out games it missed the combined score by 12.862 points on average and the closing total missed by 12.635, ahead of us in all 3 of those seasons, so it never posts to the board and never enters the record on its own.
Trends and splits
Descriptive context, every line with the games it counts. Filters like these did not hold up as predictors in our testing, so none of this feeds a call and none of it is a reason a pick wins. Situational splits look back 3 seasons and need at least 8 decided games to be shown at all. Records against the number and on the total join these once our closing-line history is restored; the straight-up splits are live now.
